The first thing I would like everyone to know is that Sarah just got a new job! She’s working at Texas Reds Steakhouse. This lifts a huge financial burden for us, and the hours fit perfectly with her school schedule. Also helping to alleviate our financial burden is my increase in shows in central Texas. I’ve scored a couple of regular gigs in New Braunfels and Hunter so please come out and see me if you live in that area. I’d love to see you! We also have our first full band show in quite a while coming up at the Grayhorse Saloon this Thursday. The Crystal Creek Boys will be opening for us. So… Robbie and the Robots is recording a new 6 song EP with Los Angeles based producer David Eaton. David’s Mother had a stroke a few weeks ago and between recording us and helping her with her medical issues he is living through a very trying time. So please feel free to send your best wishes to David and his family. Despite all of his struggles, David has done a fantastic job on the production of the new EP. I think you will all be very excited about the musical path that Robbie and the Robots is on. Playing drums on the recording is Timothy Lormor. He is playing on the album despite having been hit in the face by a car while riding his bike two weeks before the session started. Fortunately no permanent damage was done. Those of you familiar with the local San Marcos scene will remember Tim as a former member of the band Zlam Dunk, and know him as the host of a show on Texas State’s 89.9 KTSW called “In Your Dreams”. On bass is David Whitbeck. He was kind enough to allow us the use of his house/studio for preproduction of the recording. David’s father, Bill, plays bass for Texas legend Robert Earl Keen. David has even had the pleasure of writing a song with Mr. Keen. David also plays in many bands around San Marcos including Starboat and Tour de Force. On keys is Jon Dishon. Jon and I are both former members of the band Pavlov’s Dogs (although we were not in the band at the same time). Jon also plays in a band with his wife called Hollow, and about once a month he hosts Triple Tronica at the Triple Crown. Dave Hazlett plays lead guitar on the CD. Dave is a long-time friend of David Eaton’s. He works at a guitar shop in Austin called Guitar Resurrection. Brady Black plays the fiddle on the EP. Brady tours Texas, the country and the world with The Randy Rogers Band. His band was on the cover of Texas Music Monthly last year, and they have appeared on Late Night with Jay Leno and The Late Show with David Letterman. If you click on that last link you can watch Brady on fiddle and my old friend Johnny Chops on bass performing on the Late Show with David Letterman. Brady Black appears on this recording courtesy of Mercury Records. In other exciting news, Hillers (the show that licensed two songs from my LP “Todaysterday”) has announced that Tom Arnold has been added to their cast of actors. You will probably remember him best either as the former husband of Roseanne Barr, or the host of The Best Damn Sports Show Period. This is in addition to Henry Winkler (The Fonz) being added to the cast. And apparently some more name actors are scheduled to appear on the show. In fact Hillers may even be moving up from only being released on the internet to airing as a series on t.v.! Click on the Hillers link to watch the trailer. And by the way let’s be Twitter friends. My twitter i.d. is @robbie_doyen. One good reason to follow me on Twitter is that you might miss out on cute tidbits from my life. For instance, one of my last Tweets was: Today someone told me that my CD "Todaysterday" is the music of choice when he and his friends get together to play chess. Sweet! I hope you’re all doing awesome, or at least better than average. Have a great day! -rob
