Paper masche from my last tour--bare with me as I paste these scattered stories together. There are oh so many nuggets from our latest Scandinavian perils, that this entry may be on the long side. Complete with ragged passports, backpacks and bungy cords we trolloped all over Viking land. We began in Esberg, Denmark at a beautiful club called Tobakken- World class across the board. We had a great crowd, and we were off to a roaring start. There was even an Italian joint that we all agreed on. We then made our way down to Odense, and then over to Copenhagen all in preparation for our daring gig aboard a Blues Cruise on the Baltic Sea. We flew into Oslo greeted with a cold blue sky, and made our way down to Port. The ship was 15 stories high, and its mouth dropping girth pretty much smothered any notions of asking "how does this thing float". You just accept it and board. 1500 people joined us on this paddle down to Kiel,Germany. The sea was smooth as we cruised through the Norwegian Fjords, but that would all change. A few hours into the ride, the seas started to tease, and they even laughed at me at one point. Little did I know we were on the "Deadliest Catch" TV show. I failed to take "the pill"…in time that is, and the 8 meter waves shuttered the liner and I failed at "holding steady". With a Chartreuse complexion and a pale disposition, I limped to the stage on the 15th floor to "make the doughnuts". The world swayed and I sat down on a piano bench to get my message heard, but the music did heal my woes. It was the only salvation I could find! Sparing you any more details, it was a jostling good time, and one I will never forget. The next day the sea was glass, and we had a great show that I even stood up for the whole time. A big thanks to JT Lauritsen, and the whole crew for their unwavering hospitality and sympathy. As we regained our bearings in the Oslo airport, it too seemed to move. We flew back to Denmark to spend some days with my family in beautiful Vejle, Denmark. A much needed break, and we were set up complete with balanced meals and a warm fireplace. Thanks to the Jensens for opening up their home. We made our way to Copenhagen- a funky little joint called Mojo. A very enthusiastic crowd, adult beverages were served, and it was an official party. I loved the city and had a chance to tool around with my cousin Sara for a rainy afternoon and it was perfect. We ended the tour in Arhus, a beautiful city in the mainland. I want to thank Henrik Bruhn for setting this tour up, and we owe you more than one! The Scandinavian people are so warm and excited when we come abroad to perform. I love playing there, and I hope to return much sooner than later. We are back in the cradle of Texas now, and I am so thankful to have these memories to recall. Next stops are Florida then California for the Delbert Cruise! (I'll have my dramamine in my gig bag this time) NEWS Seth has been chosen to be a judge for the Austin Blues Society IBC challenge contest. 6 Austin blues bands will compete at this event.
