I didn't realize myspace only let me pick eight songs for a playlist. I--actually--chose about 15 songs and included all my artists, plus a few historical faves. The artists that were caught in myspace's glitches were Grand Funk Railroad, The Love Kills Theory, Stratospheerius, Elliott Murphy, Fabulous Thunderbirds, Tower of Power, and the Strawbs (tho' I did include Dave Cousins). In a few weeks, I'll set up a new playlist to include their music!
Meantime, I chose these songs:
SLAMM "Mouthpiece" SLAMM! SLAMM! This is Carmine Appice's rock spectacular troupe, and it features five drummers and a guitarist. I love music that makes me dance!
BEATLES "Ticket To Ride"--to me--has always had some country influences. And it's a great song for singalong--you can really belt it!
COASTERS "Young Blood"--No offense to the Beatles, but the Coasters are my ultimate favorite band in rock and roll history. Every inch of their recordings are dynamic and demanding of your attention. Rhythm and harmony.
PHIL OCHS: "Cops of the World" Listen to the lyrics, which were written in the 1960s. It could have been written about George Bush demanding our military swagger today. "Clean the johns with a rag...if you like you can use the flag." "Our boots are needing a shine, boys. But our Coca Cola is fine, boys." "And we'll find you a leader that you can elect. Those treaties we signed were a pain in the neck."
DAVE COUSINS 'We'll Meet Again" I wish I could have been a fly on the wall (or in their brain) when Dave created this song. I love how the chords in "We'll Meet Again" propel the melody and the arrangement.
JETHRO TULL "The Whistler" is my favorite song from my favorite Tull album, SONGS FROM THE WOOD. My fave Tull song is probably Ian Anderson's least favorite, "Bungle In the Jungle." Can't help it, the song's always had a kitty thing going through it for me, even before I knew Ian was a cat head.
JAY AND THE AMERICANS "Come A Little Bit Closer" Jay and the Americans have the most songs in my favorite hits of all time. It was really during their era that I started listening to the radio late at night, so '60s rock and roll engrained supplemented my dreams. I love songs with Tex-Mex and Mexicali rhythms, and these guys made such fun records then....and now!
JANN KLOSE "Beautiful Dream" Wow, in name, melody, and latin vibes in the drums, this song makes a great segue with the Jay and the Americans song! Even if I hadn't have worked on this album, I still would have picked this as the best classic radio single since Warrant's "Heaven." You'll hear it, call your station and request the song, come out to a show and tell your friends about Jann and all my artists.
