How to record backwards guitar solos. (use this technique for any instrument)

1) if you have an open track on your multitrack tape, it's best to put an audio marker down on that open track to mark where you want the guitar solo to start.. and end. You put a count down and up. Like 4 beats build UP to that point of the solo and 4 beats build DOWN after the start of the solo.

2) ya gotta remove the 4 track tape and flip it over so that it runs in reverse.

3) you start at the end of the song and run the tape and listen to the music. It sounds all backwards. Then you hear your audio cue for the start of the solo and you get a feel for where the solo will start and where it will end.

4) you start your solo in the climax and gradually build down in intensity.

5) ya remove the tape at the end of the song and reverse it again. Now the music runs forward, the guitar solo is backwards and it seems like a real solo because it starts out slow and build up to the climax... because it's been reversed.

Oh... the good old days of tape. Don't get me talking about it. Multi-track tape machines, reel to reels... splicing blocks and razor blades?

It gives me shivers. YUMM! I love that stuff.

ps: Don't forget! When you flip the tape around, track 1 becomes track 4, and track 2 becomes track 3. I mean.... ya don't want to accidentally erase anything do ya?

I really like the way you build into your solo about 2 minutes into it, you ease inot it real nice, really got my attention...

Interesting approach. I wanna go analogue. I haven't cut a track more than 3 times with anything digital.. It feels like I'm at work.

Cool technique, keep sharing..
