Friends and Foes -

This Hot List is overdue (again)!   I am in LA making some new songs.  Eric is on his way over right now to record drums which is always great.  Last night I was in the house and noticed something on the mantle.  I asked what it was and it was a Fleshlight.  Google it.  No judgement on sex toys but on the mantle??  Oy, I need more girlfriends.

Okay earlier this week I twittered asking what people's first concert was.   Everyone's answers were HILARIOUS (Bryan Adams) and awesome (Nirvana) and also I was surprised to learn that like 30% of my twitter friends first concert was the Beach Boys.  I was inspired so as promised, this week's hot list is about firsts.

HESTA PRYNN HOT LIST 10/16/09 - FIRSTS

1. My first concert - Bruce Springsteen Born in the USA tour.  I was too young for a concert, I don't' know what my parents were thinking.  We had 13th row seats and I begged to go home the whole time.  First concert of my choosing was Bon Jovi/Skid Row.  Amaaaaazing!

2. First tape I ever bought was Michael Jackson Thriller.  First cd I ever bought was Guns N Roses Use Your Illusion 1 & 2.  There are some dope songs on those records.  I used to listen to Don't Cry while I fell asleep.  November Rain, Estranged.

3. First instrument I learned was piano. The piano I grew up with is in my apartment now, my mom gave it to me last year and I used it to write a lot of the melodies on the Hesta Prynn album I'm working on.

4. Northern State was my first band.

5. First rhyme I ever wrote was "I'm Hesta Prynn, let me begin, I like my coffee with lots of gin" which actually made it on to the Can I Keep This Pen? album at Adrock's suggestion.  He told us to always mine the old notebooks.

6. First song on the Hesta Prynn record I wrote was Seven Sisters.

7. First phone number I ever had was 499-5876 which is also 499-JUPO.  My name is Julie Potash (duh) so people started calling me Jupo in high school cuz of that number.

8. First and only car I ever drove was a Honda Civic.  Spero also had one for her first car as did Chuck Brody.  I drove it for a hot second before realizing that driving was NOT a gift I possess and just got my license for reals two months ago.

9.  First kiss was with Adam Goldstein in 5th grade - I just looked him up on Facebook and he's totally there, hah ha aha!  I haven't spoken to him in like 10 years!  I'm going to friend him now.  Feel free to harass him.

10. First job I ever had was a waitress at an Italian restaurant called The Pine Tree Inn in high school.  I never waited tables before and my family ate pizza, McDonalds and mac n cheese 7 days a week so I knew NOTHING about food.  I got the job bc the waitress who worked there for like 10 years was literally (literally) walking out the door as I was walking in and they were desperate.  I worked the first shift like immediately.  Anyway one time I was there and a dude ordered a carafe of wine. I had never heard the word "carafe" before and I asked him to repeat it like three times.  Then I went into the kitchen and was like "does anyone know what a carafe is??" and they were like "you're fired".  (that last part isn't true but the rest of the carafe story totes is)

See you NY'ers at CMJ!

My first concert was Poison at the Manchester (UK) Apollo. My first record was Push It by Salt 'n' Pepa. I can't decide whether you have me beat. I suspect not!
