Sharing the stage last night at Alexander’s with Keepin’ 6, Three Empty Hours and Bread Envy, The Mahones stole the show the minute they stepped onstage. The crowd, some not leaving the floor in front of the stage after Keepin’ 6 belted out songs that had everyone jumping, singing and moshing, stuck around to nail a good view of the upcoming Mahones. I’ve seen Keepin’ 6 about three or four times now, at least two of which were at Alexander’s. Every single time they never disappoint and always get the crowd up and full of energy.By the middle of the first Mahones song the crowd was packed in front of the stage, around the stage and in the bar. Everyone was attempting Irish dancing, not well I’ve got to add, but nonetheless were clearly having the time of their lives.Breaking out with accordion by newest member, Katie McConnell (wife of lead singer, Finny McConnell), she fit right in with the Irish punk band on stage. The accordion blended well with each song, proving it to be an essential part of the sound while adding authenticity. However, the only off side to their set was that there seemed to be sound issues. For a song or two I noticed that the accordion, and I think the banjo, were either not loud enough or not properly hooked up. It wasn’t completely detrimental to the performance and you couldn’t really tell unless you really listened or saw the banjo player talking to the sound guy. Luckily, The Mahones hammered on and didn’t let it greatly affect the show.In an interview with the Mahones prior to the show, Finny said that fans could expect a great mix of songs from their previously released albums. He was definitely right. No two songs were identical and each brought the undeniable feel of Irish music to the bar and the fans. The Mahones proved themselves as a true piece of Irish heritage and culture.

The Mahones are:

Finny McConnell - Lead Vocals, Guitar, Mandolin, Songwriter
Dom "The Bomb" Whelan - Drums, Vocals
Gene Hughes - Bass, Vocals
Sean Winter - Banjo, Mandolin, Harmonica, Vocals
Katie McConnell - Accordion, Vocals
