Ivor Novello & BBC Lifetime Achievement Award winner best known for 'Streets of London' worldwide hit
Ralph McTell is widely regarded as one of Britain's best loved singer songwriters, and the man who brought us the timeless classic, Streets of London will be playing live at the New Theatre Royal, Portsmouth on 8 November.
Now celebrating 30 years on the road, and with an Ivor Novello and BBC Lifetime Achievement Award to his name, Ralph shows no sign of putting his guitar down just yet. His most recent album, The Gates of Eden returns to his musical roots paying homage to the artists who first inspired him: Ramblin' Jack Elliot, Woody Guthrie, and of course, Bob Dylan.
Talking about Dylan, Ralph said: "Bob's songwriting gave us confidence to try to write our own songs. He changed the musical and lyrical world forever and I believe he is the most important artist of my generation. I've titled the album after Bob Dylan's epic song of revelation Gates of Eden. A gate suggests an entrance and Eden a beginning. The music on this CD is the beginning of my own journey and these songs are almost sacred to me."
Tickets to Ralph's show are 16/18.50/20. For more details, call the venue on 023 9264 9000, or visit
