AW: What it Do Fam?

AW: Aiight, give us a lil' background on "DJ Wits"?
I've been doing my thing for a few years in the music game... mixtapes and radio, clubs and music choice.  Just trying to do my thing and provide the hip hop and music world with something unique and fresh.

AW: What would you say separates you from the next DJ?
Besides the obvious in my disability I would say it's my hard work, dedication, motivation, creativity, and the strong push to meet my goals.

AW: What are your thoughts on the current state of mixtapes?
I like where it's at now in the sense that they're more widespread.  The bad thing about how popular they've become especially the past few years is that everyone and their mother is droppinn' now days but everyone and especially their mother ain't hot or original.  I like it now because I can see where what I'm about to do will be in the scheme of things and how it should shake things up...

AW: Who would you say is really killing the mixtape game right now artist wise?

I like Jae Millz a lot.  Papoose does his thing and I like D-Block, but I really like Millz.  I like what I've heard from Jokaman thus far, but keep in mind mixtapes are often regional and I'm in NY, so I'm used to hearing NY artists... ..>..>

AW: What do you look for in an artist when it comes to getting an artist on your mixtape?
First and formost I look for sound quality.  Of course me personally your lines have gotta be tight, and your delivery's gotta be on point, but even if you have that for real you can't have something you recorded on a kareokee machine and expect me to blaze it.  If the sound quality ain't tight don't even send it to me.  I like lyrasists too, don't send me anything with nursery school rhymes either.

AW: How did you come up with your latest mixtape?
My last mixtape was back to basics vol. 1.  I came up with that because I've always kept it true to the heart of mixtapes, blending, cutting, mixing records in etc.  Not knocking those who don't due that pursay, but that's what back to basics is about... putting the mix back in mixtapes.

AW: Do you do other ish outside of the mixtapes and if so which do you enjoy the most?
Yeah I do clubs and parties as well as 2 radio stations and a weekly mixshow on music choice.  It's difficult to say which I love the most because I think I really enjoy everything for different reasons, and enjoy having different outlets to play different types of music...

AW: Where do you see the mixtape game in 5 years?
It's hard to say.  I could see it on one hand widening even more to become even more commercialized, but on the other hand the more widespread they get the more they are attacked by the RIAA.  Kinda a toss up...

AW: Awready! So what's next for you?
In short a lot of grinding.  Working on trying to get a show on either other commercial radio stations, or a show on a satalite network like xm or serious.  Long days and nights expanding myself as a DJ into new markets, a lot of networking and establishing connections, and a lot of office type work like upgrading my web site and marketing/promotions etc. Next up immediately though is DJ Wits and Montega present Human Heroin vol 1.  A lot of different types of mixtapes and a Fall - Spring nationwide promotional tour coming to a city near you. ..>..>
