REVIEW OF KEY CLUB SHOW
Highlight of my week: LAST NIGHT!!

Last night I headed up to West Hollywood to catch Cape May's show at the Key Club. First of all, that place is the real deal. Seriously legit. I almost burst into my own rendition of "I Love LA"- but then copped out at the last minute. But I digress, oh yeah- The Key Club... There's a large stage with a dance floor in front of it, surrounded by booths and tables and chairs- more like a concert venue than a bar. Upstairs was the restaurant, and the tables up there were configured to give an above view of the stage. Downstairs, however, after passing through a hallway and some doors, lies a hidden room, complete with bar and stage. It was a bit more intimate than the main stage, and so damn stealthy!! My favorite part of the Key Club, though, had to be the TV's in the floor. While a band is performing onstage, they're being filmed, and the footage is shown in the floor monitors as well as on a projection screen above the stage. So if you can't see what's going on in front of you, just look down!! Hooray! Not surprisingly, Cape May really held their own and played a great show. Damien is the perfect front man, his charisma shines through when he's dancing around during a song. He even popped his shoes off mid-show, which only made him that much cooler. I loved the stage set up, especially the fact that I could see the entire band, even Dusty- who schooled their audience with his drumming skills. The whole band looked like they were enjoying themselves, Mark and Andrew bounced quite a bit while they played. They have a genuine comrodery that's obvious from their performance. Even though I've hung out (and been drunk) with most of the Cape May guys a few times, I tried not to be a bias audience member. It would be really easy for me to rave about some band I know, but I'd rather take a more professional stance at a show. That being said, they fucking blew me away. Most definitely. I love the vibe of their music, it's party music, laid back relaxing at the beach music, it's good music. The bridge during their final song last night was what completely won me over. If the guitar build-up of that song was a person, I'd do him. Lots. (Alright, that last comment probably negated all of my previous "more professional" garb, but it was the highest compliment I could think of.) So another round of applause from me to Cape May... If they keep this up, they're no doubt destined to become HUGELY rich and famous. I'll still back 'em when it happens, most definitely.
