The Underground #1 Something Alternative
On this two disc showcase of our local indie, rock and alternative scene, there is one song that stands out head and shoulders above the rest. Pinned right at the very end of CD two is "Head to toe" by Chochukmo. There's something instantly catchy and enjoyable about the track, itself reminiscent of Kings of leon's earlier, more unhinged days. Among the 10 other bands (who submitted two tracks each), notables include 22Cats with their carefree lo-fi indie, Sea Monsters with their post-rock jazz improvisations and Forgot, the only band on here to sing in Cantonese and whose music has a warm glow around the edges. Lazy Susans also charm with their melodic indie rock. It's quality, not quantity that counts and as a one disc album Underground #1 could have been a little more killer with much less filter.
