> Before you send the below protest letter via email, make sure to remove my name and add your name and addresse.  It is important to send showing proof that this is coming from a real person.  Do not send blank emails as those will get no response from the Canadian Government. Again, write your number and addresse to make it official.

Right Honourable Prime Minister, Stephen Harper
Honourable Members of the Canadian Parliament

I oppose and am in complete disagreement with Oak Ridges-Markham MP Lui Temelkovski's campaign to seek An Act to recognize the Republic of Macedonia through Bill C-443.

The Hellenic Republic (Greece) is the "Former Yugoslav Republic of Macedonia's (FYROM)" largest trading partner, the most robust economic power in the region and a strategic player in the international arena.  The FYROM's foreign policy is constantly violating and blatantly pushing for the recognition of their state with the Hellenic name of "Macedonia" eventhough they have received the most economic benefit from the Hellenic Republic.

Honourable Members, please also be advised that Greece's largest and most historic region, having been called Macedonia for over four thousand years, borders the FYROM state and as a result has created great misunderstanding in the international community.  The Skopje government further creates confusion by constantly releasing misinformation and maps of an "Aegean Macedonia" under Greek occupation.

Many anti-Hellenic FYROM organizations also exist in Ontario - since 1991 - which include the name "Macedonia" and have been misinforming Canadians about the existance of a Macedonian race that is not of Hellenic ancestry, yet, has direct lineage with the ancient Macedonians, most noteably, Alexander the Great.

It is in FYROM's best interest, economically and politically, to acknowledge the truth and the importance of the Hellenic link with ancient Macedonia since:

- over 90% of the ancient Macedonian Kingdom lies within the borders of the modern Hellenic state due to its Hellenic characteristics throughout the ages (ancient Hellas, Roman Empire, Ottoman Empire, Hellenic Revolution Era);

- the modern state of the FYROM lies within the territory of ancient Paeonia and ancient Dardania - thus having no direct Hellenic, and therefore, Macedonian link;

- the inhabitants of the FYROM write in the Slavic script, created by the two Greek saints Cyril and Methodius of Thessaloniki during the advent of the Slavs into the Balkans in the 7th century AD, and the language of the FYROM is a direct idiom of the western Bulgarian dialect and not, as we have been forced to believe, Macedonian;

- This state was created by Communist leader Joseph Broz Tito in 1944 and served two purposes.  To support the Communist agenda of expanding their political ideology south into Hellas (by supporting the Greek Communists) and to put an end into the constant Bulgarian uprisings against Yugoslavia taking place in what is today the FYROM (then, it was known as southern Serbian region of Vardarshka);

- Before the southern Serbian region was renamed "Macedonia" in 1944, the Bulgarian nationals living in the southern Serbian region revolted against Yugoslavia when Hitler's troops entered their territory as liberators and were annexed, as promised by Bulgaria, into Bulgarian territory for a few years;

- The term Macedonia was used for the first time in Yugoslavia on April 30, 1944.  And, in 1991, this southern Yugoslav region declared independence as the Republic of Macedonia.  Greece objected due to the Skopje declaring everything Macedonian belonged to the new state - including, Hellenic territory, history and symbols;

Therefore, honourable members, I ask of all of you to continue to recognise this state in accordance with the United Nations resolution that declares this country as "the Former Yugoslav Republic of Macedonia" and to allow Athens and Skopje to deal on this issue in bilateral discussions until such time that a mutually agreeable name may be found for this new state that does not include a name of Hellenic ancestry.  Canada at this time should not take part in creating further rifts in the Macedonian name issue.

I encourage Member of Parliament, Lui Temelkovski, as an elected Canadian official, given the gravity of this issue at hand, to cancel Bill C-443 and to allow Athens and Skopje to come to a just conclusion.  I also ask of Mr. Temelkovski, as an elected Canadian official, to suggest to all FYROM based organizations in Canada to cease their propaganda by discontinuing the distribution of educational material and ethno-historical data that has been purposely distorted.

Hellenic history and the name "Macedonia", were not, are not, and can never become a negotiable commodity.

Sincerely,

Epsilonite Alexander I
