The members of Dahlia Seed wish to express our sincerest sadness and condolences upon hearing of the passing of the legendary Lance Hahn of J.Church. We only had the pleasure of playing with J.Church twice on tour in 1996, but in the period of those two shows Lance Hahn showed us the kindness, respect and love that only a true friend could ever show! While being very supportive of Dahlia Seed, he was just a very sweet and kind person with a big smile and a warm heart! His support of the underground punk scene is legendary, but he should really be remembered as a fantastic human being who made fantastic music, and treated younger, up and coming bands with warmth and support, and that is a real rarity in the scene today. Our thoughts and prayers go out to the Hahn family at this difficult time, and the members of Dahlia Seed will always remember his smiling face in our van window as we pulled out of San Francisco as he said......."I wish we we're doing the whole tour with you"....... We wished the same thing too! Goodbye Lance!

Lance Hahn, longstanding member of the punk community and leader of Austin, Texas-based punks J Church, died Sunday (October 21) due to complications from his lengthy battle with kidney disease.

In addition to his work in J Church, Hahn (a native Hawaiian) played with Hawaii-based punks Cringer for most of the 1980s, and even moonlighted on guitar with Beck in 1994. Hahn, in addition to his strictly musical pursuits, owned and ran Honey Bear Records, was a frequent contributor to the venerated Maximum Rock'n'Roll magazine, published the Some Hope and Some Despair zine, and was working on a book on anarchist punk history at the time of his death. He was 40.

The members of Ribbon Fix would like to join in this sentiment and send-off of Lance. I had known Lance since the early part of 1992 when I started booking shows in the Los Angeles area. J-Church played the first official show I had booked and a couple of the bands I was in had the pleasure of opening for J-Church over the next couple of years. After relocating to San Francisco in 1994, I had come to know Lance a bit more, attending many of the same shows and parties. There were a few occasions when Ribbon Fix would play the Capp Street warehouse where lance would find us across the street at the bar to pay us. He was a great person, a true punk spirit and will be missed.

Yes, yes...yes. I have been out of touch recently, but upon reading this blog needed to chime in.
Lance rocked. I actually got to see J Church for the first time in many (10?) years, on the last tour.
Lance always took care of Treepeople. Went out of his way to do so. Chris Bauermeister and I we're discussing what a stand up chap he was just a prior to his passing...he is missed.

We love you Lance, J. Church, and Dahlia Seed. Hang on, it's a bumpy ride. Much Love...
