Cave(stable)
With an earnest voice that calls you from the first notes, Kacy Crowley captivates on Cave, her fourth release. She marries offbeat poems with simple, well-crafted tunes---and I swear there's an '80's vintage Casio keyboard on a few tracks---to produce a varied CD that everyone can relate to. Save for "Quicksand," in which Crowley gets a beautifully arranged helping hand from the Tosca String Quartet, she and producer Billy Harvey make all the sounds on the album. That's a good thing, as Crowley shines whether she's covering Rickie Lee Jones' "The Last Chance Texaco" or rocking on the more upbeat title track.
