Who Gives Kudos:

April 25, 2007 - Wednesday

Current mood:  chipper

And so I begin..

I left work today after a very slow shift, and went to lunch at my usual spot...BK.

Everything was as usual, and than as I was walking to the trash can to throw out the rest of my food (I know, surprising that I didn't finish it), A homeless man blocked my way and asked if he could have the rest.

I told him yes, and than went on my way back to my apt.

As I went through the mall entrance, however, I stopped and realized that giving that man the rest of my meal, as happy and grateful as he was, wasn't enough.  Not only was it not enough, he deserved more for simply being so polite.

I wanted to make sure that he was receiving a full meal, and as small as it was, I gave him 5 dollars to use however he wishes.

The utter gratitute that came from both his words and expressions was all I needed to realize that, for not making much money that day, and having PLENTY of my own financial troubles to sort out, it was worth every penny.

I suddenly went back to the days when I was volunteering at homeless centers around the Boston area, and realized that this is still a problem; that homelessness has NOT gone away.

Living in Santa Monica, you become desensitized due to the overwhelming amount of the homeless population throughout the area.  That is not an excuse to ignore it.

I certainly don't give my money to every individual that asks, but I want to ask of all of you, the next time you get that feeling...just go with it.

Trust me, it feels even better just to know that you've made someones day.

And also, the new Tiesto song "In the dark" is pretty much the most amazing song in, oh, the world.

hello lover! i know it's been a while since we've spoken, and despite ALL the catching up that we have to do, i wanted to reply to this because it brought a smile to my face. it's an extremely admirable thing to do, and most people don't.

this may not seem to relate to the story, but you can pretty much relate it to any and every situation you come across... "have faith in the goodness of people"

truly miss and love you... can't wait to hear from you! xo

there was this homeless guy who was posted up on the bench for the bus stop across the street from 825 for a while.  one time when i was walking over to alby's, he asked me for some money... i only had my credit card on me, and i told him that...but when i was shopping, i got him a few warm chicken fingers and some potato wedges from the deli, and a bottle of water.  it was pretty cold out (a week or so before christmas) and some nice warm food was probably the highlight of his night.

when i brought it to him, he thanked me so many times, like he couldn't believe people in the world could be so kind, and for just a few dollars i filled his belly, and made him feel a little love in the world, as i also felt pretty good about the whole thing myself.  i don't think he lasted much longer after that...he looked like he was in pretty bad shape, and it was pretty cold at night for a while around that time.  it was definitely so worth it to be a little light in someone's life.
