Current mood: artistic
This song was written during the primary season when all I would hear was shit-talk about Barack Obama and his terrorist connections (aka a professor at the University of Chicago served on a charity board with him) and the fact that he refuses to wear flag-pins/is a secret muslim. It just made me so angry and jaded that this song came out pretty quick. If you can't tell, the chorus is from a Rage Against the Machine song and the beat is not my own. I figure the inauguration sort of cancels out all this hatred but honestly, the words strike me still.
we live in a culture of manufactured need, and its greed, that leads, the best to concede, selling us dreams, of being better then before, all you've got to do, is purchase what's in store
buy some diet pills, or a workout machine, and the body that you want, is no longer a dream, purchase, this here firming cream, and you can keep on eating those fries, supreme
and if you weigh too much, just weigh less, and if that's too hard, get a bigger dress, and if you don't like yourself, get a bigger chest, with some nice implants, you'll be your best
and if your stomach aint nice, do some ab work, but if that hurts, don't worry, there's other ways, and if your smile aint nice, get some white strips, add some nice lips, and make those haters pay. chorus what? the land of the free whoever told you that is your enemy
what? the land of the free whoever told you that is your enemy
weed-smoke got they minds all bent up wise folk got they rage all pent up it gets hard not to feel fenced up when your escape route aint real, then what?
tell me how the greatest nation on this earth, had its birth, in the blood of the masses? of course it developed the fastest slaveships can overcome fascists right?
tell me how the cycle of hatred ends? first the natives, the britsh, then africans? the CIA-trained groups in the middle east, seem a bit too angry for world peace...
so lets hate em, kill em, invade their land, oil quests supercede dangers of afghanistan, right? tell me whose next after iraq, where do we burn crosses if the president is black?
chorus what? the land of the free whoever told you that is your enemy
what? the land of the free whoever told you that is your enemy
in this world, there aint no justice, there's just ice, and who gives a fuck about the world, if your rims nice? why the fuck should anyone ever just think twice? wear 'free tibet' t-shirts and go along, with your life.
when genocide, no longer makes you wide-eyed, how can you have pride, and say there's a good side? focus on flag pins, and the next war, and maybe in 10 years, we can look back on darfur right?
the best part of it all is when you get that "normal" life and you have the "freedom", to choose your own wife and you have the "choice" between 5 SUVs and you can do anything within normality right?
when will people just open their eyes? realize we conform, and exactly what we prize, is exactly what they want us to buy when will any of us just fucking try, to break out of a cycle of hate, want and greed when will we no longer just concede when will we just live for ourselves and forget about what's new on the shelves?
