Who Gives Kudos:

So this is the demo version of the song, which I actually recorded the guitars and vocals a while back. It was around the first time I got my mbox protools setup, and I went crazy with recording in the bathroom of my parent's basement, which had this really sweet reverb to it. Of course every time I hear this version I get a little miffed by how I sing certain phrases and whatnot, but overall, after recording a bunch of home version demos of this song afterwards, this is still the best performance,in my opinion. So I stuck with it, and added a bunch of other instruments using Reason, Miroslav Philharmonik, and my Fantom 88.

The girl who sings the other parts in the song (and added keyboard parts on the instrumental) is the wonderful and multi-talented AnnaMarie. Not only does she have a great voice, but she is an amazing photographer who just recently took pictures of maverick singer-songwriter Nellie McKay. Check her photo site out at www.ohannamarie.com, and if you need pictures for press kits, your band, and whatnot, you should email her!

The idea for the 2nd Chorus originally was to have a choir (perhaps even a children's choir?) sing the chorus with me, but I wondered if that would be too much like that song by Mike and the Mechanics from the 80's, "Say it Loud. " But then again, Pink Floyd uses a similar technique in 'The Wall'. So I guess I would be copping it from both of those groups.

Finally. I dedicate this song to Jon and Krista. I was inspired to put up this version because of you two J. I hope it inspires you on your journey together.

Take care,

John-Flor.

I really, really like it. I love the bathroom reverb - I adore singing in bathrooms and if I ever record, I think I'll do the same.

I also really love the fact that you share notes on the songs you write - I enjoy reading about the process.

Hey John - I was wondering if you could do me a favor and send me the lyrics to this song? I just went through a really terrible breakup and this song has meant a lot to me. I'd appreciate it! I love your music and I sure wish I lived in NYC to hear you. I guess YouTube will have to suffice until you tour to TX.
