“The goal is to serve up some mountain country music and twang-a-billy swing, pumped up with an alternative edge for your listening pleasure… Leaning on our roots influences, RATTLETRAP swings, shakes and bops throughout the Metro Detroit area!”
RATTLETRAP began as a rockabilly/honky-tonk/bluegrass-influenced project in early 2007. Conceived initially via a mutual friendship, the musical partnership that formed between bassist/vocalist/songwriter Chris Troy (Supercharged) of Port Huron and Detroit-area guitar slinger Pez Pelouze (The Blue Skies) soon began to emerge into a serious pursuit.
Songs reflecting the pair’s Americana and roots music influences (and common interest in vintage automotive culture) were culled for the project from Chris’s songwriting portfolio, as new original material was being developed along with a choice selection of interesting cover tunes.
St. Clair Shores-based drummer Norm Oke (Crossroads) was recruited to complete the trio in the fall of 2007, and that lineup went on to make multiple appearances in a variety of Detroit-area venues, including an ongoing monthly residence with local honky-tonk heroes The Orbitsuns at Erin Pub (Fraser).
At one of their now-infamous Erin Pub shows in the spring of 2009, the trio made the acquaintance of Ferndale guitarist/vocalist Kat Malone (The Lamenters), and her interest in the group led to an invitation to join the lineup shortly thereafter.
Bolstered by her strong acoustic guitar playing and vocals, the quartet has since gone on to entertain audiences far and wide across Southeastern Michigan, including the group's appearance on September 1, 2009 at Detroit’s “Hard Rock Café”.
The Hard Rock show was a great kickoff for the band's Fall 2009 shows & event bookings. Keep an eye on the official RATTLETRAP MySpace calendar for updates and special announcements!
