Nos Lowen ( "Happy Night") is a type of Cornish dance event which combines elements of both traditional and progressive music. Most popular Nos Lowen dances take the form of lines or circles, which enable the dancers to learn the steps simply by following the person next to them, rather than following instructions given by a caller, as is the case at Ceilidh dances.
The lack of interruption to the music also allows both the dancers and musicians to really get into the groove of a particular tune, and provides plenty of opportunity for improvisation within the collective expression.

Whilst the track here isn't the long, hypnotic dance-floor thumper that the name: "Nos Lowen" should perhaps suggest, it does nonetheless feature three of our favourite Cornish dance tunes to give a flavour of authentic Cornish dance music.
The three tunes in this recording are: "Delkiow Sivy" - a very old Cornish language song tune, "Oll an Gerriow e'n Beaz" - a great kabm pymp (five-step) tune written by Frances Bennett and "Coer Elath" - a traditional 5/4 tune, with additional parts composed by Merv Davey.
As ever, the recording was made by Kim and Steve in glorious chaos in Wyrd House, then untangled, mixed and made magnificent by Paul Dye.
