x to all those who marched and stood at the national equality march yesterday in DC x

You are true warriors of love and of the heart. Love is a force that sees no gender or sexuality. I believe you are right for being angry that Obama is putting his "land of the free" country to shame by not addressing the promises he made during his voting campaign. I think it is saddening that in the USA you have no form of "hate crime" laws. These laws, that filter down into the schools of your country through government education, forward thinking pro active support for those of us who still would love to marry and exist in peace be given the respect any decent human being deserves on this planet. I am not a citizen of america but I have an artist visa and I love my audience so very very much within every state I have visited and I have seen such an amazingly diverse spectrum of human beings being together in song at my concerts, yes, I guess I get to live in a form of utopia when I am onstage, but it shows that if you choose the right words and harmony you can make anything happen or change in this world. Obama should not be letting you down. He exchanged your vote for a promise and he should stick to it. I hope he will. It will be so sad to see equal rights time travel back to where the struggles started at stonewall or with the suffragettes, you may think i'm being dramatic, which yes, I often am, but im sat here cross legged infront of my laptop with my heart beating wishing i was there yesterday..

I have read so many letters over my years of touring america, when i get handed letters outside after a show from boys, girls, men and women across America telling me about how hard it is for them at school, or their work place that they have no support network, be it parental, governmental or often the right protection from police when needed. that music is their escape and inspiration. I would love that one day a gay couple kissing on any street corner only would get a shout of "get a room" not "it was adam and eve not adam and steve" or a teenage girl in a texas high school decided she wanted one day to be a man and could be supported in her journey to find herself not have her spirit and soul crushed by out of date laws and education systems or a boy can take his boy crush to the prom and no one like they did to me and this was just in maths class, stab the boy with a pair of compasses. I say this now just to raise awareness. This is how bad homo-phobia is in the school system. Its time to up-date the laws of humanity. We are constantly evolving creatures. Ok. Well I will leave it at that... but I dedicate these words I wrote now to all those who fight the good fight, protect their freedom and equality on this earth and help those around you who don't have theirs find it. I have changed the lyrics as I go on tour. It mutated into an anti Proposition 8 anthem for me halfway through the american tour this year.
I think it still very much is

Peace x Patrick

BATTLE

Battle the patriarch
Battle for equal rights
Battle battle battle
Battle back your liberty
Battle the long night

Battle battle battle
It’s your time
To join the tribe
Yes it’s time
For some victory
Your time

If you’re sick
Of being a victim
Of their ignorance
Then
Battle the conservative
Battle for your
Battle battle battle battle
Battle the homophobe
But battle without war
Come on!
battle
Battle, battle, battle

Battle the misogynist
Battle for your

Victory

Since I was 12
It’s been me
vs the world
I got so sick
Of being told
Our identities
Were in minority
But now we’ve
Got tribe
And we’ve got
Some battle
And yes it’s time
Don’t you know it’s time
To g-g-g-g-g-get some victory

This is our battle

It's sad to know Obama is not doing what he promised to do during the campaign and also knowing that he won the nobel peace prize.

..thx a lot for your inspiring words, which shine me through those darkness . It is our battle and we all have our battles to fight, our dreams to realize, though its really tough sometimes.... Anyway, just dont give up easily and one day our utopia will come . ....Hope one day I can see you perform in China instead of online videos, I'd like to join your big party, to sing , to shout, to pour it all out. ....Have a good day mr wolf~~~..

....Your words have the spirit of those spoken by David Wojnarowicz many years ago... You are an artist and you have the power to reach loads of people - so I think that maybe we can't win the battle but we can change a great deal. Let's create our own utopia since Wojnarowicz's "One day, This Kid..." makes me so sad... but it's still reality. There's "fire in my belly".
Art, literature and music have immense power - Adi Nes, Slava Mogutin, Robert Mapplethorpe, Ajamu Ikwe Tyekimba, Rotimi Fani-Kayode, Sunil Gupta, Nan Goldin, Anthony Gayton, kobi Israel, Collier Schorr - to name some examples for the fine arts - have the power to change the public view on differents aspects of our society and I appreciate your efforts to join them. Keep at it!

this was by far one of the most inspiring texts i..ve ever read, about humanity and humans (homosexuaisml is just the back drop, and just a dyin' ism...) i think patrick should write books too....he's someone with things to say, and he's always thinkin' about the people. He gives the best live music shows ever, and he's just sweet, i think he's a role model for both gay and straight communities, and he just speaks to me...thanks for exisiting....

I love you. Thanks for addressing this. I support Obama but am disheartened as well. I have recently come out as transgendered and I was quite touched that your didn't gloss over gender discrimation. Thank you again.

i wouldn't judge obama yet: politics is such a slow process, he might just stick to his promises as time goes by. it's our job to be patient and remember that he also is only a human being (but also remind him of his words if nothing really starts to happen).
thank you for this text patrick! you're an endless source of inspiration yourself. i'm looking forward to seeing you in helsinki! x

Patrick, thankyou for bringing up the problems faced by young people in schools. Here in the UK homophobic insults appear to be "the norm". My son is 14 and as yet unsure of his sexuality - which isn't a problem - BUT he is constantly being bullied at school - where the word Gay is used as an insult. I pointed out to the school that if the insults were racist - then they would put a stop to it - but they seem to think that homophobia is acceptable. Because my son is small and pretty and has rather "individual" taste in clothes - he has become a target. As a parent this is really distressing - all I can do is support him in being true to himself and not to feel pressured to conform to anyone else's idea of normal. Best wishes and Love x

if only the parents of all children were like you, this problem couldn't exist like this anymore. how many kids are forced to be what parents and others suppose them to be...
it may be hard for your son sometimes, but he can be lucky to have a mother like you :) he will grow up to be an open minded person and maybe a role model for others...

I knew America - ..not everyone in it, of course.. - was (and is) pretty conservative about this subject, but you've made me aware of how bad things are. Yesterday I watched a live video of you in Atlanta (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9TIfJqVsVPU), where you shouted 'proposition 8/hate'. Because of this I looked up what the proposition stands for. I'm shocked by the propaganda-esque clips that are made to convince people to vote against equality. It's almost as if they are joking. Unfortunately, they're not..

I hope all this discrimination will end someday. xx

I'm a girl and so far I only like boys, but if it so turns out that I happen to like a girl one day, I can't find a logical reason as to why it should be a big deal.... I don't really like the idea of calling someone "gay" or "straight" because they just seem like useless labels that not only indicate sexuality, but also put an idea into one's head about what a person is like.... It deffinately is pretty conservative concerning this topic over here in the states. I hate it when people use "gay" as a negative adjective. It's like, calling a trashcan "white" or a tacky outfit "asian." It makes no sense at all.... Thanks for your inspiring words. xx

Oh Dear Patrick,..
....You speak to a sentiment of Obama that I have long felt since his very first press conference as President Elect when he came out with a bunch of old corporate/Washington cronies lined up right behind him - none of whom you'd seen on the trail and all of whom he spoke of gaining council from. It was absolutely terrifying. I knew then who was pulling the strings.....
....Regardless, I was hopeful that Change would come, but alas it's not. ....
....Hard times for some revolution. ....
....You're pretty great - thanks for sharing. ....

wow, reading your comments can I just say how amazing and fantastic it is all of you are so passionate about this, I love you for that,  thank you. Its very easy for those that aren't the subject of discrimination and abuse due to miseducation to say "why do they always have to bang on about this issue". Well, It's because it breaks my heart to think of any human being feeling threatened just walking down the street, with enough courage and inner strength to look and talk and speak how they feel, to be brave enough to express themselves in the face of conservative society, i'm not speaking on behalf of any sexuality, race, gender or creed, but I'm just being genuinely pro-peace, harmony and love. There is a beautiful saying and it's not hard to say, "Live and Let Live" If government went by those four words, our world would be at least a more peaceful place. I understand a some of my fans are saying "patrick, shut up, why do you always have to be so righteous" and I ask of them, well, I have a human voice too as well as a singing voice and I just want to spread positivity and try and use whatever platform or stage I have in this moment to help others feel that they belong and can thrive in the face of adversity. There is always hope, there is no such thing as the impossible. trust me. I'm sorry if i don't know the ins and outs of american law, I never said I did, I just very much believe I can serve to be some inspiration for any of you who are going through difficult times, I was tormented by others through my first five teenage years, and then haunted by those times until i found a sense of acceptance with finding an audience, It needn't be that way, one day at least, I would hope by the time I am 70 I can look back at this blog and laugh in happiness that things have changed. xx patrick

Thank you for the inspiring words Patrick. Sometimes I see gay couples on the street in my city, all open with their sexuality, and maybe the world's getting better, when you can be free and open about everything, well I really hope so.
And I think it's hard to be in Obama's situation as a person alone, but I hope that he will keep his promise.

thank you, patrick. i wish i'd had your music around the time i was at school, to help me and inspire me through the tough times. i felt so alone then, alienated by my peers and my family, and with no one to turn to because the adults i trusted at school ultimately said that nothing could be done. so i had to simply 'pull myself together' and 'put up with' the abuse, day in and day out. having my life made an absolute living hell by two boys in particular... being chased home from the bus stop, being punched in the face repeatedly by these boys for being a 'geek', being called a dyke because i didn't have a boyfriend, being held down in class and having my hair cut with scissors, having a screwdriver thrown at me and being threatened with compasses in class like yourself, though the boys never made good on their threats to actually stab me... i wish i had your words back then as inspiration but i can still find a source of strength in them now as an adult.. i need that power to move on and leave the dark times behind. this is probably the most personal myspace comment i've left you but my life has been spiralling out of control lately and this blog has given me a bit of light. thank you again. don't ever change. xxx

Growing up in the american school system I have been called a fagot or gay since kindergarden.  How at age 5, my piers had any clue as to what they were calling me, I shall attribute to their parents.   Growing up at the fringe of society and excluded by my piers pushed me into myself and forced me to be introspective. Each generation shall can push the bounderies of the the previous ever evolving our consciousnes.   At the age of 22 I moved to London for two years, and for the first time in my life saw interracial couples accepted way beyond anything I had seen growing up in michigan as well as an openness to sexuality I had yet to previously experience.  London has a heartbeat that pulses through people such as yourself Patrick that allows freedom to escape in the hearts of boys and men in america that have been so long suppressed by our society.   Thank you for your heart and inspiration.
