Autumnal Genius from ex-Subway Sect members band
Don't follow the many baby, we are the few … Sings the so-called 'Reverend' Rob Green. The guitars chime, jangle and you can hear the delicious squeak of fingers running across the frets and if you live in an imagined private world where Subway Sect and the Modern Lovers were more influential and life affirming than the Pistols and the Ramones then this is the soundtrack to your 2008 and the album of the year. At worst it's the best album since the June Brides Eight Million Stories. Rob Symons was the guitarist in the original line-up of Subway Sect. After decades in exile after being sacked by Bernard Rhodes, he's back, with exactly the same guitar sound and a great, truly independent band; its their own label and they host the monthly Parliament Club at the best venue in Ladbroke Grove. These ten songs are indescribably beautiful; simple Mod-ish pop on the face of it but somehow intelligent and askew. Lyrics like 'Good ideas played badly can be true, Ideals held long reject the new.'.tell you exactly where they are coming from, a 'Stuckist' perspective, only they don't play at all badly, quite the opposite. Track this down via there myspace … its never too late. (Ged Babey)
Not published by R/C - perhaps because it was a triffle too over-the-top and fanzine-y. But I meant every word and stand by it, A great band and a superb album.
