Over the course of our lives,
the dreamers amongst us get along thinking of all the things we’d like
to see and do and experience. For many of us, this can be accompanied
by many things that define the moments we’d like to keep forever, such
as smells, tastes images or sounds; anything that will stimulate our
senses. Dreamers keep the company of dreamers, and there have been many
a discussion on the topic of “the sound track to your life”.
You can choose single tracks for different stages of your life, or you
can have an artist guide you through the moments that made you who you
are. Noiserv is an artist that you’d want on your Official Soundtrack, and he’s our Artist of the Week.
‘One hundred miles from thoughtlessness’ is a beautifully crafted collection of music straight from this Portuguese singer/songwriters heart.
Noiserv is the moniker of David Santos from Lisbon. He is currently on the rounds of the UK, touring with PodcART veteran artist Esperi.
The word on the great grapevine of the Glasgow music scene is that this
is a gentleman not to be missed nor underestimated in a live setting;
or in the recorded setting for that matter.
Using a plethora of different
instruments, the main one being his trusty Takamine semi-acoustic
guitar, he loops both vocals and instruments with such ease that one
wonders what came before effects pedals were around. The album is
layers upon layers of sounds and noises which take you by the hand and
lead you though some misty fantasy world, where people doff their hat
to you with a smile. One such other worldly track is ‘Bullets on Parade’
which starts of deep and rhythmically. It’s curiosity melodified,
something you’d find down the rabbit hole. He slowly builds on each
verse with another loop or sound that culminates to a huge butterfly
net of sound, and finishes with a touch of typing for good measure.
In terms of what Noiserv offers as a whole package, I need only tell you to look at his album cover or pay a visit to his website. HERE you can play with the little sketches and attempt to make a little layered noises of your own. I
didn’t play with it for hours, nope. Definitely not. The album in its
physical form is a pristine little token of fun for those who purchase
it, accompanied by it’s own little 4 colour tipped pencil. Here is an
artist that seems to work solely for the imagination of others; I fail
to see how you could not be inspired by this man.
‘Download’ is the track I want
included in the soundtrack to my life. It has a much crisper feel to it
than some of the tracks on the album, it’s much more defined in its
movements. This track is also the one in which you might be able to
pick out one of his many influences. It has a sort of Thom Yorke element to it that contributes such beauty and elegance to it. Of course, I don’t say this to overshadow Noiservs
stand alone sound and talent, but it’s really moving to identify just
what has inspired him in his life to be able to construct such
exquisiteness in his own music.
All things considered, this is
an album to sit with and to consume in its entirety. It really is a
blank canvas that just needs you to fill in the blanks as you see fit.
Whatever your dream state is, however you grab that alone time, make
sure this album goes with you and let it infiltrate the dreamy mist you
inhabit in that time.
Please pay a visit to his MySpace to hear tracks and buy, and his own website (as mentioned above) for tour info and more.
