It's been a while since I've posted anything here. I've been busy, but that's really not a very good excuse. I just didn't know how much footwork and paperwork is involved in buying a house.
On May 21, I received a reply to my submission to the Writer's Edge. By reading the letter slowly, I was very excited ... at first. Then I had to finally get to the end of the letter and ... BLAM ... so much for excitement. As with all rejection letters, I can get something postive from my experience. At least I wasn't completely blown out of the water. The worst case scenario would've been being told I should give up writing and focus on my real job.
First for the good parts. The evaluator had a lot of nice things to say. I have an "interesting idea for a novel" and the anonymous evaluator enjoyed reading the sample chapters. Much of my writing is "strong" and I've "developed some memorable scenes and characters". By reading those comments, I know I'm at least a novice writer and someone likes at least parts of my story.
The bad part is the evaluator didn't like the ending. I won't reveal that ending here because that would ruin the ending if anyone ever reads the published book ... when it gets published. Everyone is entitled to their own opinion so this one evaluator doesn't represent the entire population of readers. The rejection won't stop me from seeking an agent who will represent my work as written.
Because of what the evaluator felt was a "significant barrier to publication" ... the ending of the novel ... he/she did not add my information to the lists of novels being submitted to the various Christian publishing companies. Perhaps I'm better off this way. If and when I find an agent, they'll represent both me and my work because they like what they read.
