Current mood:  hopeful
as an artist i am constatnly trying to re-invent myself (in the spare time i have)  trying out new stuff.

when i am coloring new projects i try to do stuff differently.
if you look at SNAKED and TANK GIRL: Visions of Booga - totally new style. if you look at TANK GIRL: Vision of Booga and the upcoming TANK GIRL:SKIDMARKS tthen you will see its also quite different, away from the heavy shading to a more gradient/ soft shading.
i think the next TANK GIRL will be different either.

while waiting for Rufus to start the new series i worked on the Dead United Booklet and now i am currently working on a project on my own.

It's called "Tales of Dead Earth" and is a trashy widescreen formated, vintage look,  retro sci-fi apocalyptic story of strange stuff that comes to my mind.
it won't feature epic scale stories with deeper meanings  or intelectual ideas.
it will be like an 2 minute grindcore song,a fast punch in the face, watching an nippon movie, not understanding the words but overwhelmed by the action. thats what i want it to be.
(i used kanji for the soundeffects and words in chapter one for instance)

what i love most about the new project is the inking! if anyone would have told be one year ago that i would like inking then i would have burst in laughter. i always hated it. working with a quill, not nailing the pencils, making too thick lines.
artist dave johnson wrote in his blog about the pentel brush pen and how he loved working with it. i got myself one of these precious lil gems.
and now i love working with it. the great rough lines when you pull it fast over the paper. incredible. but since i am not sooo secure with inking i went for inking over bluelined copies of my artwork.
i also tried to experiment more with negative space / larger black areas.
i was also trying to integrate the text more into the story /artwork.
knowning that  it won't meet the level of a mike mignola or will eisner. lol

well, enough babbling....

here's some artwork from my new pet project....

the linework only page

wiht colors, texture and fx

panel from chapter 1

title page or whatever (cause its too bad for a cover)
