What's up everyone? I promised that you would be hearing from me more often, and, here I am already keeping my word, for it hasn't even been a week yet and here is another update on me. As you know I am getting ready to release never enough on air on Monday October 13th, and in keeping with this, today's "Mirror" newspaper (Friday October 10th, 2008) has printed an article on your boy. It talks a little about the track and about me and more. So check out the article below or CLICK HERE to see the actual document:
Fresh off the success of "Never Enough" is another hard hitting motivational hip-hop track called "My Favourite Things", Young Mecca's new single for 2008.
As the title suggests, the track does communicate Mecca's favourite things but not in the manner that most would imagine. Instead of rapping about cars and clothes and money and jewellery and girls, Young Mecca touches on other matters and focuses on the hustle and struggles rather than the fancy and extravagant things in life. It speaks of turning "reality to fantasy" in the sense that one has to create the life that one imagines. The good life the way it is dreamed.
When asked about the reason for the direction of the song Mecca replied:
"I make hustle music. I hustle in life just like many people do, and I hustle in this industry too. I love it when people overcome their struggles and make a name for themselves; that's one of my favourite things. I like it when folks stand up against injustice and abusive authority; another favourite of mine. I like it when people dream dreams and work towards them. Those are the reasons for the direction of this track. And also I just wanted to get creative with it. Do something they didn't expect".
This catchy and meaningful song is written by Keen "Young Mecca" Cotter and Sherwinn "Dupes" Brice, who also produced. It contains a sample from the Sound Of Music's "Favourite Things" performed by Julie Andrews which only adds to the ambience of the song.
"'My Favourite Things' was written and recorded at a time when the police were getting away with a lot of stuff and government officials were not delivering as they promised. Both issues still exist today. Therefore it can clearly be seen that the music already is timeless," Mecca said.
In the first verse of the song Mecca states his cause. He lets listeners know about him up front within the first two lines –"I'm just try'na live my life man, get in the booth and rhyme man/get out the streets and travel for the weekend" - a dream shared by many people. The second verse deals with the wrongs done by the enforcers of our judicial system while the third touches on the political leaders. Dupes is featured on the hook and sings words many could relate to.
All in all, Young Mecca has beautifully constructed a track over an emotional instrumentation with a hook that fans will love and enjoy. They could sing along to lyrics that speak meaningfully to those who feel like Mecca does.
"My Favourite Things" releases on radio stations island-wide on Monday. It will be distributed and marketed by Young Mecca's newly established company - PRESIDENTIAL MEDIA, in conjunction with the highly acclaimed and award winning House Of Wax.
