We have found playing in our band Snake Eyes that there really are a bunch of idiots that don;t understand the business working as 'Promoters'.

They seem more interested in booking bands for gigs, and either just ripping them off or seriously underperforming due to the fact they don't know what they are doing!

I have seen people do it because they want to be doing something cool, without any consideration of the hard graft & expense that bands put into buying gear, rehearsiung really hard & trying to build a crowd.

This is why we formed our own Promotions organisation, in order to provide a venue and platform for bands to move forward and stop being ripped of.

All our bands at our events recieve an equal percentage cut of the door take, minus a some advertising costs. We figure that if all the bands play, they should all get an equal share of the money!

We headlined one gig at one famous venue. The crowd stayed to the end and gave us a great reception & enjoyed our set, but the promoter said that the punters had come to to see the other bands, not ours.. We got paid nothing and had travelled, put on a good show and had expensive gear etc, we did it for nothing! It is a good job that we did not ask before we played how many people were there to see us, as we might just have well turned around and said, well you are not here to see us, so we won't play.

I would not mind so much not getting paid if we put on a crap show, but that is patently not the case with us.

With this in mind we want to support all bands that want to play for our promotions.

Completely agree!

I have promoted metal for nearly 25 years as well as being a gigging musician and I do see both sides-sometimes (a lot of times) I've lost my own money to promote metal and overall im probably down on the deal.

But what i will say is this-everyone wants to make money, of course they do, bands, venues, promoters etc. If venues dont make money they wont survive so there will be no places to promote bands and nowhere for bands to play.

Sometimes bands have to give their time and talent away to get heard-I know i have had to. If you are good then you wont have to do it for long, people and venues will want you.

But what really pisses my arse off is venues and promoters want you to pay them to play and they can FUCK OFF! NEVER EVER pay to play.

Promoters are there to organise things and to get the apathetic british public through the doors (thats the real problem) and often put their arse on the line for bands-if they REAL promoters that is-not all are bad and I hope Im a good one.

In short-

We all need one another. Venues need punters to survive so they need good bands and bands need quality promoters who know their stuff and how to get punters in the places. And promoters need good bands and venues that dont want to rip you off.

The shit should be named.

wow enough said huh? this is so true hard enough to keep a band with the fear of this. i manage and promote and its hard for me due to others making a diff outlook in what promotions is about or manage. i been in the biz well over 15 years i started out as a musician at age 13. and so much bull crap of even stealing your promotions away from you dam it, i worked hard and i have had many so called promoters or pr people take bands from me. hell one promoter or production in ks hates me. knows i could do his shit some good, instead he had it rigged on a audio productions i was doing for other promotions with my partners kc anthem, we do productions when it's audio or video related. i was pissed off months after about that. the band and i talked daily how was we going to fix the mess up but oh well you know what happen for most part on me getting sick, that is what happen in the same time of me getting sick
