If you are talented musicians (like Spiral Dive) writing original music then venues seriously take the piss!!!!!!!!!

They are using our drive to push our music to promote their venue and effectively pay them for the pleasure....

how about pay and get paid for a change lol i still cant see how peeps expect peeps to do summit for nothing i have allways paid my bands and supplied food drink and a party after lol cos if ime going to work hard at putting a gig on i want to eat drink and party and get paid so why the hell shouldnt the bands as well
shame is i dont get to put on too many gigs meself these days but those i do allways work well and cover me costs so other should take a leaf and play and get paid is my motto

maybe, but you also have to consider that if its going to be a packed house, with a more established band, then it might well be worth the money. Factor in PRS royalties, Merch sales and exposure, plus the fact that if it was a good enough show you could use it to bring down industry friends and guests to show them you are able to play on a packed out bill. You might not be aware of it, but if you go and see a bigger band, the chances are about 90% that the support band has paid a lot more than that to get that support slot, and they won't be taking 10% of any ticket sales. But, for them, the exposure gained, new fans, and merch sales are often worth the money...so don't discount that kind of option everytime - weigh it up with the pro's and Con's because you might just do well out of it...:)
