Current mood:  frustrated
Category: Music

I was minding my own business when I noticed one of those status and mood updates.  I have never really spoken to this person, but her statement was obscene.  It said.  "wonders why no one ever told LL he couldn't rap" with the little confused icon under it.  I couldn't believe what I was reading, so I sent her note that read;

Had to respond to that one! Are you freakin Crazy?  LL Can't rap? That cat has held it down lyrically, longer than any other MC.  I'm a head! I am hip hop and I unction this cat a lyrical phenom! Never heard anybody say that shit.  Never thought anybody would think such insanity.  Long live James Todd Smith.  No ill will! LOL!

I personally would have never imagined someone would listen to LL and conjure in their head that he couldn't rhyme.  Not that I care what other people think, but to publicize such larceny.  That's crazy.  Comment world!!!!

Hey Hey!!

I agree...crazy.

Hmm and what is her opinion on who CAN rap?
Certainly we can conjure up a list of people who are better producers than rappers...or basketball players that should never ever pick up a mic...etc etc...

Part of being great is being memorable in a positive way...and not conforming to the mainstream industry.

Be classic.

Be heard.

Lately the great lyricists I've come across are highly slept on and their record sales aren't proof of the greatness just because they're not "bouncin this" or "shakin that". (This includes rnb and soul...)

LL said it himself,
"Never retire or put my mike on the shelf
The baddest rapper in the history of rap itself
Not bitter or mad just provin' I'm bad
You want a hit give me a hour plus a pen and a pad"

Kind of random thoughts...but you get the point 8)

That's my ish! That exact lyrical barrage was in my head just the other day. That's just one example of L's lyrical genious. The man was bred for hip hop. How could anyone say he can't rap when he earned his stripe from Battle Rap itself!

lol - LL is horrible, always has been, sorry. He's a phenom in a "how has had a career this long?" sort of way but um, he's pretty horrible to anyone who takes timing, originality and poly-syllabic words seriously. You're the first person to respond defending him, everyone else is in complete agreement that he is like one of the worst rappers alive. Thanks for playing, -

Represent it!!! If success is the yard stick, LL scores a perfect ten. If fan base is the measure, LL scores a perfect ten. If longevity is the bar, LL is still raising it. I work with artists every day. At topcatlive. com we keep it poppin and we keep it real. If you have something to say... make it constructive. When you voice your opinion... make it useful. We don't have to always agree, but be willing to expound on your point. Tell us why, in your opinion, you think the brother can't rap. Tell us how you came to that conclusion. Give us the basis for your position and maybe we will see your point. Doesn't mean we will agree, but at least we will know where you coming from (or if you just flapping your lips). I encourage individuals to give their opinion(s) on the artists at topcatlive. com. And Warrick... you have an open invitation to join the ranks of the aspiring, emerging, and/or established artists at topcatlive. One Love. One World. One Peace.
