Touché they say and the finger gets pointed directly at a man with a virtual goldmine of musical hats.
Doobie Whitehorn is fondly remembered
as the bass guitarist and songwriter in 80’s band Counterfeit who’s
1987 debut single “Who’s Talking” charted at #13 nationally in it’s
first week of release.
 Since
then Doobie has played on many recordings and soundtracks as well as
touring consistently with a bevy of acts. Finally the opportunity
presented itself for Doobie to record his first ever solo album.
Inspired for years by Mike Oldfields “Tubular Bells” he decided to play
everything himself and not go down the track of using sequenced backing
so a collection of instruments where borrowed from friends and music
stores and the process began.
The result of this is the album “Touché”.
 Ten
songs all written by Doobie and with him playing all guitars, bass,
mandolins, drums, percussion, piano, keyboards and piano accordion as
well as all vocals. Now that surely is either a true solo project or an
act of madness caused by way too much loud rock’n’roll.
These are some of the reasons "Touché" sounds unique, it's retro but new, a little theatrical, over produced but loose. Put simply, it rocks
differently to anyone else around today. So enjoy every facet of this
album for what it is - independent, personal, from a man with
rock’n’roll firmly flowing through every vein in his body. This album
should be in everyone's CD collection.
