EVERYBODY TALKS ABOUT THE WEATHER: CORNER HOTEL AUG 6th 2009EVERYBODY
TALKS ABOUT THE WEATHER is one-off showcase featuring four titans of
the Melbourne exploratory music/avant-rock scene in a blistering,
bone-shaking display from the far corners of the sonic spectrum.
Oren Ambarchi (guitar/electronics),
Robin Fox (laser/electronics),
Marco Fusinato (guitar/electronics) &
Anthony Pateras
(electronics) all perform rare solo sets in a memorable night for
anyone sick of talking about the weather and wanting to talk
devastating sound devoid of any bullshit trend or flash in the pan
cyberhype… Make no mistake, these people are veterans: all have been
promoting and performing the inquisitive end of music for over a decade
in their capacities as curators of the What is Music? Articulating
Space/MIBEM and You Don’t have To Call It Music.
Ambarchi has collaborated with everyone from Sunn O))) to
John Zorn
to Jim O’Rourke, a musical chameleon commanding glaciers of low-end
bliss. Fusinato’s installations and performances re-configure the
senses in galleries the world over, alongside collaborating with
Sonic Youth’s
Thurston Moore and the Dead C’s Bruce Russell. Fox’s infamous eye-drilling, booty-shaking laser feast has been featured in
Chunky Move’s
runaway success Mortal Engine, on top of his glittering international
career, which sometimes includes his duo work with Pateras, a unique
musical figure who is as comfortable on stage at the
Sydney Opera House with an orchestra as blasting his paralytic architectures through pubs around
Melbourne.
Guitars. Check.
