The is just a BLOG to let some of the local bands on my friends list know that I have a couple video's of show's they did in the last few months , there is a list below here of the bands . Most of the video's are short , maybe 15-20 minutes... for the most part if there were 3 or 4 bands on the gig , I just used a hour long DV mini tape and tried to give each band equal time . One or two show's I seen only had 2 bands so maybe each band got about a 1/2 hour of video . Just remember I am new to the world of video taping and these video's that I recorded to a DVD disc are done by a non-pro... aka ME , L.A.Ives .
Some parts of the video's look pretty good while other parts look dark because of the club's low light's... they are best viewed on a TV screen when played from your DVD player , when viewed on a computer screen or when they are posted on My Space and or YouTube... they maybe tend to look darker . It all depends on the clubs lights or where a band member was performing on stage , as for the sound... I tried to stay somewhere in the middle so I would get equal sound from both sides of the sound system . Also sometimes there may have been fans of the band... or just drunk people walking in front of the camera or there may have had a large group of fans that made me point the camera at a wall or the floor all of a sudden because they got in the way of me shooting .
There were 3 show's in 3 weeks that I went to that did not come out because... believe IT or NOT because of the brand of mini DV tapes I had gotten . I got a four pack of TDK brand mini DV tapes and used two of them at 3 shows and everything I taped came out crappy... the picture was "scramble / distorted" and the screen on my video camera told me I needed the tape heads cleaned... and thats with only my camcorder having about 25 hours of use to it ( half of that was recording and half playing back ) . Well after buying a mini tape head cleaner... it didn't help , so I want back to square one... I said to myself what was the difference between now and when the camcorder was recording with no problems... and everything pointed to the brand of tapes , I open 2 of the 4 tapes to use just because I was thinking maybe it was just one bad tape in the pack so I opened a second tape and had the same trouble... I didn't see the sense of opening the other 2 because I wasn't going to another show thinking I am taping the bands just to find out its not recording right . Well the only reason I got the TDK was because Target was sold out of the brands I was using... aka Sony and Maxell . So I went to Target and got the Sony brand and BAM... double BAM... the camcorder was working !
A lot of people think I am or was telling them a bullshit story about those 3 show's and the tape brands... all I can say is my JVC mini DV camcorder is video taping again with Sony and or Maxell tapes but did not with TDK brand ( well OK they did tape but without a viewable picture ) . By the way I gave TDK hell by phone and they say the will replace the tapes .
Ok this started out as a BLOG but now has become a book , so look below for the list of bands I video taped and if you haven't already gotten a copy of the video on a DVD disc , just reply back to me ( Ken from Se7en Heads did take 4 or 5 video's to get to bands he was playing a gig with , so hopefully those bands have their copy ) .
