Up until Earth day (the 22nd), we'll be giving you some tips on how you can not only help to save mother earth... but maybe save a few extra bucks in some tough times.

Tip # 1. If you're moving on to a new phone or a model, recycle or donate your old phone. Not only does this prevent waste, it can help out someone and need and potentially even save their life. If you're looking for a good cause to donate to, we recommend Cell Phones for Soldiers. If you don't want to go out of your way for a good cause and are looking for a bit of money for your old phone, talk to your carrier about it when purchasing a new phone; they'll frequently give you some credit for it and it should be recycled or at least disposed of properly in their hands.

Have your own tip? Feel free to post it!

Tip # 2. Consider buying a refurbished phone. Not only are they extremely wallet-friendly, if you buy refurbished phone your actually having a neutral waste impact by basically using someone else's waste while ideally not requiring any new waste to be produced.

Tip # 3. A great way to be green with your wireless phone is to make sure you're charging it properly. The best thing is to let your phone's battery die out completely once a month before you recharge and only charge it when it needs to be charged. Practicing good battery charging behavior can extend the lifetime of your battery, not only saving you money, but preventing waste, not only for producing a replacement, but also for getting rid of the harmful chemicals in the old battery.

Tip # 4. Unplug your phone's wall charger and anything else from the socket when not in use. Pretty much every device that is plugged into a wall continually draws energy, and even if the power load is significantly reduced when not charging anything; the amount on you may be tiny, but the millions of devices all over the world wasting energy adds up to a significant amount, so do your part and unplug. If you find this to be a particular hassle, especially with multiple devices, just buy a power strip and turn it off when not in use.

Tip # 5. Buy car chargers and travel/wall chargers that have IC Chips. These chips not only prevent overcharging and overheating (both of which can be dangeous), but can modulate power consumption better and know when your phone is fully charged. Not only do these chips help save you from a fire or save your phone's battery, they also can help save the environment.
