Santiago & Bushido,
James Amato to make overseas debut; Potty Mouth artists to lend support
CHICAGO—It's been more than one and a half years since Potty Mouth Music revealed its dirty secrets to the underground global dance scene. Chicago-based label head James Amato has steadily grown his talent roster from homegrown artists like Santiago & Bushido and has since expanded its reach of beats across the world. Today the label roster features a slew of international producers including HiJack, The Bulgarian, HeavyFeet, and Scott Cooper, to name a few.
Fast forward to November 2008, and Potty Mouth Music has released just under 20 EPs and promoted the fidget sound to growing audiences. Starting November 5, 2008, Potty Mouth Music takes its sound on tour in the UK, marking the first-ever appearance of label founder James Amato and the label's first roster artists, Santiago & Bushido. Artists HiJack, The Bulgarian, HeavyFeet, and Scott Cooper lend support for an inaugural music showcase.
Artists on the Potty Mouth Music label have spawned several Top 10 hits, including the smash release "Head Trick" by Santiago & Bushido, which remained the No. 1 seller on Beatport for three consecutive weeks. Some of underground dance music's biggest names, including Dave Taylor aka Switch, Annie Mac of BBC Radio1, Kaskade and Colette, continue to praise the label's creative—if not filthy—efforts on the dance floor.
With countries like the US, UK, Canada, Australia and South Africa encompassing the largest fan audiences for Potty Mouth Music, the forthcoming UK tour comes at the right time. The global, underground dance community continues to support the music through the Potty Mouth Music messages boards (http://board.pottymouthmusic.com), where just under 1,000 users have register on the site in less than one year.
Fidget fans across the Atlantic will get their chance to hear heavyweights from the Potty Mouth Music roster from November 5 through 8 at various nights across Ireland and England.
The Tour TalentWith their blend of big basslines and vocals,
Santiago & Bushido (USA) bring a forward thinking, funk-tech sound to the decks in Chicago and beyond. Since teaming up as a production duo in 2001, Chris Santiago and Tim Bushido have elevated the art of electronic jack to encompass many influences, from the hard hitting to the deep and soulful. The duo's first release on Potty Mouth music, "Head Trick" remained the No. 1 seller on Beatport for three consecutive weeks and introduced their sound to the fidget scene. Says Chris Santiago: "One thing about us is we're not afraid to do a deep track or a totally hardcore track . . . as long as it works on the dance floor and is pushing the sound forward, it works for us."
The nastier the duo delves, the better they beat.
Label founder
James Amato (USA) has balanced roles of promoter, label owner, DJ, and producer for more than a decade. In addition to his vision for Potty Mouth Music, Amato has served as the Director of Music and Bookings for Chicago's historically influential SmartBar since 2006. In 2008, Club Systems International recognized his efforts to diversify and promote Chicago's electronic music scene by selecting him as one of its "Next 10 Exciting Up-and-Comers" as part of its annual VIP Edition—"Nightlife's 30 Most Influential People." As a DJ, James combines a rare blend of organic, twisted tech that defines the vision of his Potty Mouth Music label.
The Bulgarian (Bulgaria) is the business of dropping big beats, both on and off the Potty Mouth Music roster. With a production career that spans more than 10 years, his first release as The Bulgarian in December 2006 quickly became a best seller for the Second Session label on djdownload.com. Since then, he's taken his bass-heavy, fidget sound to some of the most respected artists in the business.†In addition to his releases on Potty Mouth Music, The Bulgarian has held numerous club residencies, including Voltage in Cape Town and Homegrown at Mercury Live. In May 2007, he was featured on Andy Mac's prestigious Cream Radio show, where he joined the mixing ranks of some of the world's most acclaimed DJs and producers. His self-recorded "Slutty Fringe Selection" mix also enjoyed a 7,000 downloads in its first two weeks as an internet blog release.†
HeavyFeet's (UK) wobbly beats bring their own dirty vibe to the Potty Mouth Music roster. Best-known for crafting jerky, shuffled beats, HeavyFeet producers Mike Burgess and James Medina have pooled their collective talents to become two of the Manchester underground scene's fastest rising stars at 23 years old.†HeavyFeet's bass-heavy sound blends U.S. and UK house with breaks, hip hop and garage. The result is a shuffled arrangement of distorted vocals, old-skool rave noises, new-school Chicago jack and plenty of wobbly undertones.
Scott Cooper (UK) blends jackin electronic house with eclectic influences of hip-house, ragga and dancehall. His diverse spin on the underground sound has made him a less predictable—but always rowdy—addition to the Potty Mouth Music roster. He has held a previous residency at Digital in Lincoln and is a current resident of the monthly Moda event which Potty mouth's Andy George runs along with fellow Lincoln based DJs Jaymo and Ingo Staar.†"I'd describe my style as all-embracing in the way that I like to get a lot of different sounds and make sense of them in both my productions and my DJ sets," Cooper says. Cooper has collaborated with George for their latest EP, "The Cooper and George EP" was released in July 2008.
All this is happening at The Egg in Kings Cross, so dont miss out!
See you on the dancefloor!
