Current mood:  drunk
hi,

i've been trying to finish the lyrics for a new song, which, and i may be wrong, is probably the best thing i've written since My Radio (9 years ago, yikes)...

needed a break, so i went downstairs and read the paper, to find that Martin Streek, one of the original DJs and visionaries behind CFNY, had recently been let go from the station, and has now killed himself.

don't get me wrong, i haven't thought about, let alone listened to, that horrid station in many years. (it's not even called CFNY anymore, i'll give them credit for knowing to officially cut ties to its past). it should've ended right around Nirvana, but then, had it done so, i would have never written My Radio. was there a better station in the world, ever, than CFNY in the '80s? maybe, but i doubt it. it was so great that someone like Martin Streek was probably still clinging to that ideal 20 years later. it's probably been like a bad marriage for a long time, but he still wasn't ready to give it up.

i doubt Martin Streek ever heard My Radio... too bad, i think it might've given him the chills.

PS new album is days away from completion! (and, PPS, i'm a bit drunk)

I miss Martin's voice, as I used to listen to his live to air retro 80's shows, funny enough. Man, CFNY was the best station where they played the entire side of albums (who does that anymore?), the height of jazz with David Height, the Comedy Bowl, Peter the Greek live to air--all that on CFNY. As a grade school kid I sang the lyrics to 'every night is halloween' and nobody knew what the hell I was singing. The lyrics were so catchy and the sullen way they were sung. The on-going histroy of music...man that station was a conduit of culture...what a tragic loss of both the station and Streek.

That's encouraging to hear -  thanks! BUT... my label Ghostly has a very busy release schedule, so even though the album will be finished by the end of July, it won't likely be released until early 2010.

Cool... Yes, the x0xb0x features prominently on 2 songs.

I'm also planning to put out a 12" in the near future which will be more straight-up techno/acid (ok, maybe not "straight-up", more like Rephlex-style) ... Stuff that didn't really fit (musically speaking) on the album. I might just press this one up myself in a few months from now.

I knew you had a xoxbox at the first listen to "master alchemist (solvent remix)".
God oh god I am waiting for your next release.

Hope all is well Jason.

Excellent! Consider my order in!
Are we talking in the territory of Analogue Bubblebath's 1 & 3? The good stuff in other words before he went all gatling gun with the rhythms.

EARTRASH! NEW REMIX UP!

As jon said, 'My radio' is one of my favourite electronic songs ever! i have no idea what half of the lyrics are saying but it seems to bridge the gap between soulful lyricism and deep, pondering house music. i know its a lot of preassure living up to such a great benchmark release, but Im sure you will do it! :) Much respect from Scotland, eArtrash
