CARGO PRESS RELEASE........................................... KAREN P PRESENTS...BROAD CASTING ALBUM LAUNCH PARTY
This very special edition of Broad Casting is going to mark the launch of Karen P's contribution to the '…Broad Casting' compilation series on Jazzanova's Sonar Kollektiv label.
Having curated an already legendary gig in April which saw Ethio-Jazz legend Mulatu Astatke perform in London for the first time in 15 Years, Karen has again pulled in some incredible talent from across the globe.
Hailing from St. Louis by way of New York, Detroit and LA, Black Spade is a rapper, producer and song-writer whose innovative one-man team approach found a welcome home at US dance label Om Records. A graduate of the Red Bull Music Academy, Spade will also be joining the line-up at Sonar this year.
Support comes from another RBMA Graduate, New Zealand's Adi Dick who has sung backing vocals for some of New Zealand's hottest bands including the world-renowned Fat Freddie's Drop.
Also performing on the night will be a band that has travelled a similar distance to be in London but who must remain nameless for now. We can tell you that they are a recent Sonar Kollektiv signing and that we are very excited at the prospect of their performance…
DJ Sets comes Karen herself and Si Begg, who co-produced exclusive tracks for her '…Broadcasting' compilation. Si is best know for his work on Novamute but has also released under his aliases Si Futures and Buckfunk 3000 on other labels such as Tresor, Cheap, Skint and Shitkatapult as well as his own Mosquito label.
Karen P '...Broadcasting'
The third release in Sonar Kollektiv's '...Broadcasting' series, Karen follows in the footsteps of Jazzanova and Dirk Rumpff (Off Track Germany) in compiling favourites and exclusives informed by their work in radio. Karen's mix sidesteps the dance-floor to find a deeper groove that eclectically combines the fresh and the classic. From upfront 'skewed' soul and heartfelt balladry to reflective hip-hop and obscure Finnish jazz new and old, Karen's selection favours future classics over the fashionably contemporary and is all the richer for it.
