Recording Tonight At Midnight
Ok we headed up to Landscape Studio in early April '09 to lay down some drum tracks for 5 songs that we hope to get into CD and of course use to promote ourselves a little bit, and as the studio is in Rich's house, we knew that drinking cups of tea and having a bit of a laugh at the same time was going to be on the agenda.
Ev & Shaun taking it easy..
We were after a bit of a raw sound that gets us somewhere near the noise we make in the rehearsal room, and maybe leave some room for a bit free styling, so we did things the old fashioned way of just plugging in and going for it, No clicks, No triggers, No bullshit, just us and noise..
Paul gets down to some serious thrashing of that kit
We got the drums down with minimal fuss over 1 afternoon, Rich completed the bass tracks whilst drinking some Stella one evening, to realize afterwards what he'd played was actually rubbish, so they were redone without the influence of booze..
Next Guitars!
The guitar tracks were recorded using Shauns rather big sounding Marshall, Evan's little horse amp didn't get used in the end, but we used 2 Sm57's, one positioned just where the center cone meets the main body of the speaker, and one kinda halfway in from the outer edge of the speaker, and without really any EQ already sounded quite nasty and crunchy..
After a few hours the guitars along with some daft bits thrown in for effect and most of the songs are done..
Vocal Day!!
With the end in sight we set about finishing off these tracks with Ev doing some shouting over the noise we had already recorded, after some further cups of tea and playing about with some false facial hair, we were done....
We'll now sit and wait as Rich mixes the tracks, we'll probably add them to the profile as they near being finished, and further details about how to get hold of one of these fantastic CD's or downloads will follow..
In the meantime we'll continue to rehearse and try to book some more shows maybe..
Cheers
Ev, Shaun, Paul & Rich
