Vienna Psychoanalytic Society - Update July 2009....

The MTV Deal

About a month ago we were approached by MTV’s production company (Bunim-Murray in California) and were told they thought our music would be suitable for several of their reality shows.  They discovered us on myspace searching for indie bands they liked.  About two weeks ago we ended up signing ‘Gratis Licenses’ as we felt this opportunity for such exposure is just too good to pass up.  So on that note, we’re very excited at the deals we signed, which allow for both vocal and instrumental versions of the songs on State of Mind  to appear in episodes of “The Stylist” “Keeping up with the Kardashians”, “The Real World” and “Khloe and Kourt Go To Miami”.  We don’t know what songs they’ll use in what shows, but we’ll keep you posted.  The first of these shows “The Stylist” will air on MTV in the US, in late July.

CD Sales & Digital Distribution:

Sales of our debut CD are going very well, thanks!  Due to the digital age we only ordered limited quantity of CD’s and supplies are dwindling fast.

Reviews of “State of Mind”:

Marshall Ward of the Waterloo Chronicle wrote:

“I put the CD in my car stereo after leaving the Waterloo Chronicle's office, and headed North towards St. Jacobs, listening to the first track 'Seasonal Affective Disorder,' and really enjoyed what I was hearing. I was immediately hooked both on the sound and the voice. My favourite like from S.A.D. is: ‘Usually I'm really glad, But sometimes I see things that make me feel so bad. So many great things to be had, But there's so much in this world the makes me feel so sad.’ Those words certainly resonated with me, and I thought it was such a great choice to be the first track and set the stage for the rest of the album.”

Dan from the “Systema Synthetica” blog wrote:

“The album hasn't stopped playing on my iPod...f**kin' awesome! Specifically:

1. Seasonal Affective Disorder (S.A.D.) - The opener of the album settles us into a myriad of layered synths and atmospheric sounds. The vocals are beautifully masked with a light dose of industrial effect. A great introduction to what is a superbly crafted album.

2. Life In The Key Of E - This track immediately reminds you of New Order/Electronic but yet, still individual. The guitar work gives this a more industrial feel and when played loud...and the whole album should be played loud, you can hear the riffs and synths blend into a cocktail of electro paradise. Great vocals with intelligent lyrics.

3. You're Like Me - Again a perfect blend of guitar and synths and great use of a catchy and simple chorus. This track has a slightly darker edge to it, and a definite dance floor filler. With tracks like this, who cares that New Order have disbanded (again).

4. There Is No Normal - This has to be a single...this is everything that VPS is about. It has it all, great synths, great vocals, a thunderous tempo and wonderfully sculptured lyrics, I can listen to this one over and over.

5. World & Comment - Again a complex track easily blended into a crescendo of electro and guitar. Great atmospheric sound and up-tempo bass, wrapped up with a great vocal performance.

6. The Battle Of Waterloo - I normally flick to the next track when faced with an instrumental, but something about this one that keeps you interested and then no sooner has it started it abruptly stops.

7. Do You Know Who I Am? - A simple and effective repetition of vocals held firmly together in a guitar fuelled mayhem. This one leaves you totally out of breath, fast and furious...perfection.

8. Going Home - VPS vs. Oasis. The vocal effect is a dream and adds a harder and rougher feel to this mighty track.

9. Bay And Bloor 1996 - A strong and methodical song, with great lyrics and has a maturity about rarely heard from a new band. This is my personal favourite of the album.

10. All Except You - Ok, I know I have already chosen a favourite, but this one blew me right away. A mind thumping beat and fantastic lyrics delivered with passion and energy. Another strong contender for a single. Nice touch with the piano.

11. Better Than Alright - I have to agree, this is most definitely 'better than alright'...awesome vocals, outstanding energy and again another contender for a single. What a way to wrap up what has been a faultless album. Guys, you've created a piece of art...priceless and will be admired for years to come and will never lose its gloss.".

Podcasts & Remixes:

Thanks again to our friends at Waxdolly Independent Music Podcasts in the UK who have now played 4 of our songs (‘There Is No Normal’, ‘Going Home’, ‘All Except You’ and ‘Better Then Alright’).  The wonderful comments they are producing for us are brilliant!

Jed Stephens (of Waxdolly and Bass Bandits) has done a remix of ‘There Is No Normal - Waxdolly Mix’ which we’re quite pleased with.  It will soon be added to our music player’s on our web sites.

VPS Video:

We are currently producing a video for ‘Seasonal Affective Disorder (S.A.D)’, which should be posted later this summer.

VPS Live:

This summer we will be preparing for live performances.  Look for VPS gigs in late fall 2009 / spring 2010.
