Dear Friends and Supporters,
The 2009 New York City primary is fast approaching and, today, I am calling on you for your help.
Yesterday, many of you joined with me to pay homage to our founders
and celebrate the birth of our great nation in a public reading of the
Declaration of Independence, the Constitution and the Bill of Rights.
These remarkable documents are the foundation of something truly
magnificent - participatory democracy - the concept that our government
is "for and by the people."
I know of no better way to truly honor these words than to take my
campaign for Public Advocate to every neighborhood in our city, but in
order to do that I will need your support.
We are very close to reaching the $125,000 threshold to qualify for
Campaign Finance Board matching funds. If we reach the $125,000 mark by
the end of the day on July 11th, we will qualify for a match of
$750,000. To date, 1260 people have contributed to our campaign, and
$115,000 is matchable. Our immediate goal is to raise an additional
$10,000 in matchable funds. (Matchable funds consist of contributions
from New York City residents up to $175.) We have
several fundraising events this week and those events will get us close to our goal but probably won't do it alone. If you have not
made a campaign contribution as yet, now is the time.
If you are a New York City resident and have contributed before, but contributed less than $175, please consider
contributing again.
If you can reach $175, please do so. If you can't get to $175, please
give as much as you can. Every dollar counts. If you have already
contributed $175 or more, please email or call your New York City
friends, relatives, fellow workers and ask them to contribute to the
campaign by no later than July 11th. Tell them to go to
NormanSiegel.com and
contribute on-line or send a check made out to New Yorkers for Norman Siegel, 260 Madison Avenue, 18th floor, New York, NY 10016.
Remember, we must receive the contribution by July 11.
All too often, democracy is determined by "Pay to Play". Our
campaign is people-powered and has always relied on the enthusiastic
and generous support of people like you, who genuinely reject 'business
as usual' politics and who demand more from their government. Today I
am asking you to renew your commitment and help me achieve the victory
that will finally allow the office to operate the way it was designed:
holding those in power accountable to the people.
Thank you for your continuing support.
Norman
