So so sad to hear the news. Having spent time with the man during a very special time in his life in the early seventies, as well as travelling with him from Hastings to London for some memorable shows, I feel very at loss. His music has touched me and in some incredible ways still comes through me in every show I do, his style, his songwriting, his voice, his deep love for the early country blues pioneers and for his jazz influences, I must say, he was way out ahead of his time. John, my friend, I know you are allright, and your music will live on and on and on... Alamo Leal

This man has been a top singer songwriter/poet of the past century. The epitome of humanity. A man throughout. Apparently going with the whim, the whim was always informed by the heart. He leaves such a legacy. My heart bursts. If you're not into John Martyn, you need to stop anything else you're doing and go find your soul. www.myspace.com/frogngerm

I just saw the notice in Downbeat - I literally wore out the Solid Air LP when it came out. I recall hearing Solid Air for the first time on the car radio while driving at 3am and I actually had to pull over.... A truly singular artist who touched and influenced so many. I'll be chanting for him and his family.
