Dogs desperately need a new home

The current shelter is not safe
Tg-Jiu shelter is very primitive and is far from EU-standard quality. It doesn't give the dogs enough shelter from the rain let alone harsh winters. If the shelter should stay in the current spot (which is very unlikely), it'd have to be completely renovated to be proper and safe for keeping animals.

The city wants to evict the shelter
Tg-Jiu shelter is located on a site owned by the city. The shelter was a municipal shelter where dogs were killed in large numbers until Pro Animals Romania started to look after the shelter in 1999. The city has never participated in supporting the shelter financially. The city would, however, want the piece of land the shelter is on, to a better use. They have wanted to evict the shelter already for long and it's only a matter of time before they really do...

Challenge: New shelter
Our greatest challenge is to build an EU-standard quality animal welfare and community centre with a shelter for the homeless animals, a veterinary clinic (that would enable a long-term neutering programme to reduce the number of stray animals) and modern facilities for the community to the outskirts of Tg-Jiu. The centre will be in a close cooperation with the local community and will provide environmental education, encourage the community to develop, offer new jobs for the locals and help create symbiotic relationship between people and animals.

Our task is not easy so we kindly ask for your help.

Tg-Jiu Animal Welfare and Community Centre will cost about 250.000 euros of which we are aiming at collecting half the amount. For the remaining part we will apply for EU-support. We hope that you would find it in your heart to support us in our courageous goal to make the future better for the whole community of animals and people.
