Great overlooked horror film for this Halloween-2009
The Outpost (2008)
When it comes to the zombie film everyone thinks they have seen it all. Zombies fighting sharks, zombie punks, zombies that make you laugh and zombies that will make thee cry! The 2008 Steve Barker film The Outpost brings in the new! String-theory, physics, Nazis and zombies! The blood and brains of this story is a group of mercenaries from various cultural backgrounds are hired by a UK research team to go into a war torn eastern European country to secure and recover materials from a WWII bunker. The team finds what looks to be remains of current ethnic-cleansing but soon find it is something older and darker yet! The Outpost gives a claustrophobic sense of mind to this zombie movie that will make you squirm in your seat with lots of mystery and gore to go around!
This movie is well acted and the cast is led by Ray Stephenson (Punisher: War Zone and HBO’s Rome) making a movie that works on so many levels! Not just as a horror movie but The Outpost has more psychological substance then most horror films today. For example, the crew of mercenaries in The Outpost are from places like Africa, Scotland , England, Russia and the US. This seems to display a collective dread of Europe again coming under the grip of fascism and the most monstrous of enemies of humanity rising again. The Outpost is one of my favorite zombie films and you need to see it if you like the undead and skulls that pop like grapefruits in a vice! Not quite the “gore-porn” that is films like Hostel but brutal none the less!
Note....A new film shot in Norway will be out soon called "Dead Snow".....also about Nazi zombies...in the snow!!!
