Iron Pier News: January 2007 – Hours Continuing Long
Hope springs anew: In this email: end of year best-of lists, interviews, a sale and plans for 2007. Plus a small Iron Pier tour.
So it's been a pretty crazy year. Our Thieves and Assassins 7" came in out January 2006, since then we have released two full length CD's and an EP, by Capital, Agent and United States, all of which are available through our awesome distributors and have been reviewed worldwide. And how could the year get even better? End of year best-of lists, that's how. Capital and Agent took a place atop several of these lists: Punknews.org named the Agent EP the best EP of 2006 http://www.punknews.org/review/5941 Pastepunk.com named Capital as their second favorite album of 2006 and Agent as third best EP http://www.pastepunk.com/features.php?v=209
Other end of year craziness: Dave of Iron Pier was reviewed by Brooklyn/Pittsburgh based online zine Scenepointblank for their end of year feature on labels adjusting to a new musical climate in 2006 and 2007. http://www.scenepointblank.com/features/displayfeature.php?id=144&p=7
So what do we have planned for 2007 you may ask? Punknews.org did a bit of detective work and spilled our beans: http://www.punknews.org/article/21544 They were right, but still, here it is straight from the horses mouth: Our plans for 2007 consist of continuing to support our current releases, particularly our most recent ones. After that we will be releasing a 4-song 7", as yet untitled, by Oakland, CA/Brooklyn, NY based Dirty Looks. An mp3 will be up soon. This seven-inch release coincides with a spring tour down the west coast. Dates posted soon. We will be releasing the next full length by Dearly Departed from Long Island, NY. Dearly Departed released an EP and a CD on Onedaysavior before breaking up a couple years ago. They recently reformed in February 2006 and have since recorded a whole albums worth of new songs. This new LP will come out within the next few months. Watch for dates. You can check out new Dearly Departed songs on their myspace: www.myspace.com/dearlydepartedny We will also be releasing a 7" EP by Albany, NY's End Of A Year. We've know these dudes since before we started a label and now that we're both getting incredibly famous we figured we'd pair up. Psych. Sincerely, their latest LP which came out on Revelation Records/Slave Union, is one of our favorite releases of 2006. Check it out. Other plans: We will also be working with Gracer on a stand-alone release. We're also going to try and press the Capital full-length to vinyl as soon as we can. I'm also hoping that we're going to get the chance to release new material by Thieves And Assassins and Agent. We haven't heard new Agent stuff yet, but the new Thieves songs blow previous stuff out of the water.
Other band related news: Capital has signed to Revelation Records. Look out for a full length on Rev in 2007 as well as a split with Crime In Stereo coming soon on State of Mind Recordings. Capital have posted some of their new songs on their myspace - www.myspace.com/capitallihc. Some of our friends here on LI have a new American hardcore band called Call It Fire: www.myspace.com/callitfire Ex-Another Day,Thieves And Assassins,Backup Plan,This Is Hell, yadda yadda Some of our other friends have a new band called Bridge and Tunnel. It mixes the No Idea Gainesville sound with a strong Minus The Bear/American Football influence. www.myspace.com/bridgeandtunnel Ex-Solidarity Pact,Latterman,Regarding I, Slingshot Dakota, etc. That's all we got for right now. Maybe more next update. Watch out for a mindsetoverhaul.com update and sale, we're clearing out some space!
Guess what, it's time for a 2006 fire sale! For a limited time at Iron Pier.net you can order all our 2006 releases for $25 PPD in the US, $27 Canadian and $29 World. Tour info: The first "Iron Pier mini-tour" is happening. Capital and Agent are heading up to the wilds of the greater northeast for a weekend and are touching down in Lemoyne PA, Rochester NY and Albany NY. They're playing with a bunch of cool bands, including End Of A Year and Another Breath. As a bonus, I understand the Albany show is free. Earlier in January, Thieves and Assassins are doing some weekend dates as well as a weekend with LI's own In Times Of War.
