Current mood:  annoyed

I am so sick of hearing about global warming. I am not saying that it is not happening, the earth is getting warmer. What I cannot believe is that it is because of what we (people) are doing. In the 70's, the big hysteria was about global cooling, where the hell did that go? What we do know is that the earth has gotten about 0.36 degrees warmer over the past 20 years. We also know that the solar radiation reaching the planet is has gotten 0.036% warmer since 1986. So if the sun is getting warmer, can't that explain why the earth is getting hotter? Hmmm.....The global warming proponents will tell you that the raise in carbon dioxide in the atmosphere is what is causing the warmer temps. If the earth's oceans are warmer, they will absorb less carbon dioxide. So, if the earth is getting warmer naturally, that would cause the spike in carbon dioxide. Not the other way around. Everything in this universe runs on cycles. We know the earth is drastically different now than it was even thousands of years ago. We have gone through an ice age that created our lakes (except in Texas, we have only one natural lake). There is no scientific evidence that proves the warming we are going through now is anything other than one of our planets natural cycles. I am not saying that global warming happening as a result of an increase in greenhouse gasses is not possible. I am just saying that I want proof before we all change our lives as a result from hysteria.

Here is something else to chew on. Al gore won an oscar for his  documentary An Inconvenient Truth that that warned of the dangers of global warming. He must be really worried about the environment, right? Maybe not. In his documentary, he called for the average American houehold to reduce energy comsumption at home. The average American household uses 10,656 kilowatt-hrs per year. In 2006, Al Gore's house used 221,000 kilowatt-hrs! That is more than 20 times the national average! He doesn't seem too worried. Al Gore also supports the practice of buying carbon offsets to help fight global warming. Guess who owns a company who sells carbon offsets? Al Gore. He is making money off people that believe in gloabal warming and nobly want to do their part to help.

I am not saying I know it all, or that I am even right in all this. I do think that everyone needs to search for their own answers before getting swept up in hype. If we feel guilty about hurting the environment, there will be someone around to expliot that.

So what if Al Gore is SMART and is going to profit from the carbon offsets? You'd do it too. And it's still better than an oil line controlled by another vice president... So what if people get caught up in the "hype"? Oh no then someone might do something! Ooooh!
