I think I never got around to posting septembers but I will get to it eventually....doesn't matter so much though when the one reader I had who was actually still reading and leaving comments seems to have abandoned me too. (it was inevitable) Books and music coming when or if they do....well the books will be coming next music..iono...if I ever get around to compiling it in one place to copy, paste, and post :)
Killer Klowns From Outter SPace commentary 4.5*s Might even be a 5..on the low end it would still be a 4 BUT because watching the movie is so fun and the commentary track isn't horrible...there ya go. If you for some stupid ass reason have never seen this movie you are missing out :)
and while i'm at it the dvd is 5*s. Beautiful transfer and sound is great...nice extras...only real gripe ties into the commentary as the dvd itself has no subtitles on it to turn on while you watch with commentary (if you're like me and you like to watch the movie and listen to the commentary..at least as much as you can do both...it's a bit of an annoyace)....BUT if you turn captions on your tv you get them...a bit odd when a dvd has no caption/subtitles ON the dvd but the film is still encoded to show you subtitles on the tv if your tv has that option (which damn near any tv you might have today would)
they said they are making a sequel on the commentary....BRING IT :D
Taken unrated 1.55 I HAVE TO PREface with the fact that I despised the previews for this movie with the heart of my being..thusly i boycotted it...and yet now i'm watching it.....what can i say it was there on the shelf at the library (already to boot).and since I saw a FEW scenes that made it look interesting...subconciously a kind of wanted to watch it..just so i can fairly say it sucks..if it sucks...which I'm sure it will....hahahhahha
8 minutes in and i AM correct
15 minutes in and boring still....also am i really supposed to care about this spoiled rich girl being abducted? uhhhh no.
25 minutes and finally stuff is beginning to happen...the whole go under the bed scene...this movie is doing a good job at becoming worse than the strangers and quarantine knock off
35 minutes in 1 * ...where's something to really engage me? thus far the only part that has grabbed me was the intel on the kidnapper/abducters
AAAND the slow pacing doesn't make it suspensful, entertaining, engaging, or any of those things..but annoying
37 minutes in and it actually is starting to get 'good'...nice fight anyway
1.55 the end of the movie becomes like something you would see in a cheesey late night pay channel tv or direct to video type movie.
I fast forwarded through the rated version because I watched the unrated...the only differnce seems to have been in one scene rated he shoots a guy the head once...unrated he does it like 5 times....also I'm guessing the torture scene goes on a bit longer..BUT there is only about 3 minutes more for the unrated....at least in this case it wasn't used as a marketing ploy because the dvd has both the rated and unrated (those who don't know unrated doesn't mean boobies and brutality neccesarily..it just means its a cut that wasn't submited to the mpaa....TONS of movies have made a big marketing emphaiss on "unrated" and more than a few times the extra scene(s) have been something to the effect of a few more words of dialog and a scene of someone drinking a coke. I'm not exxagrating all that much either.....even the movies that promise a more brutal and bloody unrated cut....there's usually only one extra scene that isn't all that brutal.....the exception might be with hostile 2 as I'm pretty sure the unrated is far more gruesom than the rated...but it's also a good chunk of time longer...also one scene from thatmovie will never leave my head...)
Elsewhere 3.35 random gripes, dude moved himself on the chicks wannabe myspace account on the top friends but couldn't access the messages until he had a password.....riiiight. Chick went home, while her mom was out of town, and walked in the front door with no keys..ie. front door was unlocked...considering the story that would be rather illogical that she had her front door unlocked
"you don't think I'm scared too? I'm SO fucking scared" lmao
joe is in the movie (insideish joke)
the ending is fucking stupid ******SPOILER******
Why would you wait until nightfall to go look at the bus? Why woulnd't you have dropkicked the dude during the daylight hours, tied him up, and than went to the bus (OR forced him to take you to the bus?) the dude is far from superhuman? are we retards? why yes..yes we are i think
THE FUCKING STORY IS NOT REVOLVED AT THE END....god damned assholes
marley and me 3.5-4.65 = 4.075 quite a sad flick..and suprisingly better than i expected considering i knew how it was going to end; on an amusing sidenote there is nudity in this movie and it's rated pg....granted you have to watch in slow mo to see it.....although there's also gratiitious baby dong in the movie that didn't need to be there. isnt really all that much about the dog as it is about life..and works as a metaphor for life..
the sixth day 4*s Remains one of the better mindless arnie action flicks..with a bit of a mind about it. Great sci fi/action flick in the leauge of minority report, i-robot, and ironically enough total recall.
rat race I watched this movie the first time in theaters...I've seen it TONS of times since than. I didn't love it the first time I saw it and I still don't love parts of it..BUT I almost always watch it if it's on tv (even though I think I have a copy of it laying around somewhere :) )
careless 3.5 bizzare and a bit wacky with a few laughs...diffrent than things youve seen if nothing else. The movie revolves around collin hanks trying to find the owner of a finger he finds in his apartment. No seriously :)
shaun of the dead cast commentary 1.5 not entertaining, not informative, not even very many haha laughs...maybe because they are SO british I didn't fully track..although i understood most of what they were saying it just wasn't anything more than rather bland and boring....doh...began to listen to the director/simon peg commentary and it's heeps and heeps better
son in law Another movie I have fond memories of...we saw it at the cheap theater back in the day..and at the time of the girl on girl kiss there was a collective moan/whooo/gasp in the whole theater (that combined with the few of us who were just laughing hystericaly)...Someone may read this and be like HUH? but back when son in law was in theaters the world was a much different place as far as gay/lesbian mainstream exposure. I didn't put **spoiler** because A) no one is likely reading this anyway and more importantly B) If you've never seen this movie there's something wrong with you...yep
hanna montaner the film movie 3.69 ((also known by it's theaterical title of hanna monana the movie) ...hokey beginning and b storyline....and vanessa williams is annoying / has she ever even been on the show? tyra and vanessa williams look like twins...Miley is certainly "perky' througout the movie if you know what i means...i thought dolly parton was her 'moo mah'? is it her dads mother? *odd* rascall flatts is apart of her family? righttothelefts....inconsistanciies with the tv show with a ludacris ending buT...alls well. ** also you don't need to be a fan of hannah montana in any way, shape, or form to be able to enjoy this movie...if you're a tool you will hold the fact of what it is against it but it really is a pretty decent movie and also it's quite beautifully shot in bits....which is to say there is some great landscape visuals and such in parts)
step brothers 3.12 This is another movie I had no interst in watching...BUT it was there at the library and on the shelves....wait no i think i recorded it on tv and watched it? ...Or I recorded it but than saw that it was at the library, checked it out and than deleted it from the tv..yeah that's what happened...anywho this movie is more or less what you would expect from wil farrel and john c. reiley. If you are retarded you will possibly love it...if you don't like low brow..you will probably hate it...if you are me...you will probably fall somewhere in between...thus my rating :)
the 12 days of christmas eve ;;gay xmas 1.65 and that's probably being generous...no reason anyone should bother watching this but if you insist on doing so...it's not AS horrible as it could be...far from being worthy of anyones time though.
knocked up commentary...fell asleep with wont rate but is amusing..also actually I've probably previously rated it...who knows...likely no one cares :-D
the color of magic
2.35* part 1 harry potter knock off..combined with a bit of lord of the rings and all things magical/fantasy creatures....seems like a story taking place in a preexisting world that exists that we don't know anything about...ie a better backstory would have been nice...cheesey acting, odd story, illogical everything...however there are a few amusing bits if you can manage to continue watching through the mediocricy and stupidity.....including dragons, an upside down magical sword fight, death, and more nonsense there does seem to be a story somewhere buried within
part 2 3.25 why so generous with part 2? I liked it better..The story KIND of comes together but there's still just to much going on...but it's alot more entertaining.....SO if you happen to come across this movie and have an hour and a half to kill it's worth watching BUT I wouldn't reccomend anyone sit through all 3 hours of it.....maybe fastforward and skip around through the first half and watch all of the second half?
3.15 As a whole....2.975 as an average (of the average of part 1+2 combined with the 3.25...hey it's my rating system I can do what I want :) )
The Soloist 5*s Just as good as I expected it to be and than some. Critics didn't love it and had lots of kind of negative things to say about it (at least hte reviews i read)...I didn't really see any negatives about it...nearly a perfect movie..or by my rating it IS a perfect movie...(though no such thing really exists..or does it?) Robert Downey Jr. is a good actor as well is jamie fox....but than you probably already knew that...OR you hate them both and think they are hacks that just get alot of high profile jobs...whatever the case solid performances, solid story, solid cinematography, solid everythig....also gives you alot of perspective on what it means to be someone NOT living on the streets and not homeless. (i.e. you get a bit of the homeless experience by watching this movie)
Sugar 5*s I started watching this with the intent of only watching part of it and than going to sleep because it was in the wee hours...I even nearly tuned out in the first 20 minutes BUT the story gripped me and held my attention so rather than go to sleep, like i probably should have, I watched the movie. Covers alot of territory about minor leauge baseball that I'm pretty sure most people don't know about...gives you insight into the fact that foregeiners in baseball are literally farmed out from their native countries to the minorest of hte minor leagues....where they end up living in iowa with no one else who speaks their language...trials and tribulations of what it takes to make it in the mlb. I didn't particualry enjoy the direction the movie goes in the end BUT though i didn't like it the story came about in the end and really put alot of perspective into the whole issue of people from a foreign land immigrating to the united states.
van wilder freshmen year. 3.5ish First off. Dude in the movie is NOT ryan reynolds...he pulls off a few of the mannerisms and for the most part it isn't to distracting BUT I hate movies where they replace the actors in the crappy direct to dvd sequels because the orginal stars don't want to touch it with a 13 foot pole. Anywho..the movie starts off terrible..but slowly but surely it all isn't as annoying as it would or should be. (ie i was feeling a low to less than 2..became 2.5..2.75...2.65 etcetera)...The soundtrack is a bit interesting as it sounds like it was done by drive thru records....if that's a good or bad thing I'll let you decide. Gotta love that the rotc is wearing cammies that didn't exist when this movie would have been set too (as the cammies they have on were not switched too until a couple of years ago)......the roommates are a bit retarded...more so the white jamican with the inconsistant accent....and the dog doesn't look like the same dog from the other movies (although according to the behind the scenes stuff he is)..but all those things don't kill it......I did have to look away as to not vomit in a couple of scenes...I won't spoil it for you and tell you which but I think most people would have to have that same feeling during the first cringe/vomit inducing scene...maybe less so on 2nd one.......anywho it all seems to work despite it nto quite making any sense as to where other things go in van wilder....what can one really expect from a direct to dvd prequel that is relased merely to cash in on the youth market that will probably spend the money to view it? ((((on a side note there's a preview to a sequel to road trip....fuckin really? Stupid damned direct to dvd prequels/sequels/and so on need not be made for EVERY damn teencentric romantic comedy induced binge fest that some of us hold dear to our hearts....what's next "i still can't hardly wait"????))))
Transformers 2 5*s Far superior to what I was expecting. I probably SHOULD have watched it in theaters but it still managed to translate well on the small home screen....BUT for the fisrt time I think I anticpate watching it one day on blu ray...as there is GORGEOUS cinemataogrpahy throughout that would look even more amazing if it were crisper (i know right? gorgeous and cinematograhpy you don't expect in michael bay action film hahahha). The story was much better than I thought it could be and...I can't really say to many bad things about the movie. Can't wait for part 3...though I hope that part 3 concludes the series.(ie dont make thirty films just to cash in)...I also liked the possibly non intentional homage to gremlins in the beginning of the film with the robots in the kitchen...that's all i'll say as to not make it a spoiler (though it's kind of a minor scene in the movie anyway I've had movies ruined from just a tiny little morsel of something before)
Dvd 3*s Inconsistency in my dvd vs film ratigs since usually a 5* movie would warrant at least the same or close dvd..BUT what i watched was just the movie...NO extras. I don't know if that's because it's the rental version or because you have to get the two disc version to get any extra goodness.....ALTHOUGH that being said it doesn't take that much more memory to throw on a commentary track..((((on that audio note I've noticed that dvds don't often have a choice of english audio anymore..they seem to finally have phased out the choice of 2.0 vs 3.1...which is good because than by default you have the best sound quality and you ain't getting wasted space on the dvd with the 2.0 sound that you don't really need)
wanyes world ..Well at least almost all of waynes world...why do I include this someone who might randomly stumble upon and read? Because this is a list of what I watch for the month, including older movies...one can never say to much about movies that they intentionally or accidentaly watch multiple times can they?
Coraline in 3d 5*s (in 2d it's either still 5 or REALLY close..I did watch the 2d with the commentary..the only difference is there are VERY little things that are very subtle in the 3d that you might miss..but the story is still tops) ;; preface this by saying there didn't seem to be all that much 3d in the movie and of course the real 3d doesn't translate well on home screedns because it's gotta be the blue/green blue/red or what have you type....that being said I think it's all about how you set things up and such ..anyway. For most of the movie I was feeling a 4*s vibe....at some point it got better..so I thunk to myself..hmmm 4.5..than moved to a 4.75...i think at some point i was feeling 4.85.....and in the end 5*s...I'm going to venture the risk and say even without the 3d 5*s. NOW to the meat of things....The animation is AMAZING....the soundtrack..is just barely short of fantastic..the story..well the story is a bit weird and hard to track in the beginning (unless of course you're familiar with the book..which i'm not)...BUT in the end everything winds up quite nicely and even if you spent the first 90 minutes wondering what the hell was going on I'm pretty sure you're going to be able to appreciate what you just witnesed as a masterful work of art that warrants being a 5* movie. Definetly not a kids movie, as people DO still assume (i didn't)...not overtly adult themed but a few words/thoughts/suggestions here and there that will probably fly over most little kids heads.......blah blah..anywho it's a great movie ages -9 to 9million. See it...Love it...Become at one with it :) (((I already plan on watching it multiple times and perhaps/hopefully aquiring a copy of it for myself)))
12 rOUNDS unrated 3.15 i usually like long movies but the first 21 minutes 40 seconds could have been done in 10...maybe 12 but definetly didn't need nearly 22 minutes......Mr. Cena, while being a captivating "sports entertainer" (read wrestler...which I AM a fan of wrestling..but for sakes of profesionalism....sprots entertainer..hahaha), doesn't seem nearly as charismatic playing the part of straight up film actor..or more so action film actor. I find his square jaw more annoying than appealing too....not without merits his acting is subpar (I know MOST people assume that of wrestlers acting abilites...despite alot of those same people calling them a bunch of actors anyway).....his character I don't quite buy...AND the story gloses over a few deaths in the film that you would think there would at least be a moment of reflection or something (nearly a spoiler but than it's a dumb action flick so it's kind of hard to spoil anything)....my father said it was action packed...My thought is ...i guess one could call it "action packed"...not to say it drags once you get past the first 22 minutes but...it just doesn't grab me like say a live free or die hard does/did/has;; NOt to say there aren't a few cool scenes and stunts and such in the movie..but yeah...it's far from groundbreaking, not nearly amazing, not going to make you say WOW! how'd they do that (despite the behind the scens thing saying that's what they were going for ;-) )...BUT it's also probably not going to put you to sleep (if you make it past the first 22.haha)....not going to bore you a ton, and might just keep you interested and wanting more (unless you hate "dumb" action films in which case...well this IS an action film...haha...more mid level than michael bay though).... One last note of having it set in new orleans was an intersting artistc (or probably more so cheaper to do) choice...it feels alot like san fransisco to me though.
12 rounds dvd. 4. TWo commentary tracks, I listened to neither so they MIGHT be terrible but I have a feeling at least one of them isn't, unrated and rated cuts of the film (I don't know the difference I only watched the unrated), A john cena stunt feature that is..better than most features you usually get that clock in at 4 minutes (this one is nearly 10), A gag reel, and alternate endings. Only thing missing would be some deleted scenes and the presence of an amazing film (haha) :) . ((also the gag reel isn't really a gag reel so much as another behind the scenes vinnite)
Joy ride 2 :dead ahead 1.75 I don't seem to have a review already written for this surprisingly...well.. I think I'll keep it that way and leave you with a couple of qoutes from the movie that I may have enjoyed more than the movie as a whole
'I'm not goth, I'm 3rd wave emo punk if you must label' ((my thoughts..lmao so lame))
"breaker breaker this is captain winkie looking for pink taco"
wait..I will say that it's probably not as bad as my rating reflects..but it was just to stupid for me to be able to reccomend...particularly a scene involving a car near the end....let's just say it's probably the biggest step away from reality in the movie...unless you suspend beleif of basic physics :)
*******End of the movie reviews BUT I just have to say...I copied and pasted this all from my original source...and attached to joy ride 2 was this
the old school white boy funk sound has descended into stoner grooves heavily layered guitars over vocals that are pure nonsenseical....I feel a bit of the mars volta and "if I had a hifi" which is the band who opend for them the first time I saw them and they hated them" If you were high on shrooms you will probably love this shit. Dive bar mentality (hey, that's a good title for a song..I think i'll write it :) ) Music at end of movie is best part...rest is ridicilous and not in a believable way...
That is my write up for an album....it's kind of amusing actually if I were to keep it attached to .....oh wait I DID have a write up for the movie "Music at end of movie is best part...rest is ridicilous and not in a believable way... " there ya go :-D
And now maybe a new feature for the movie review/ratings...just a sample of a tweet, from twitter duh, ie a tweetview...the short and simple or short and as to the point is allowed in 140 characters.
Coraline 3d
So I just watched Coraline (in 3d)..a bit hard to track in the start but by the end one of the most spectaculor rides I've ever been taken on 5*s like a mofo!!!~
arguments/thoughts/opinons/input/discussions and so forth as always would be greatly appreciated..but if no one reads or has anything to say....fuck it...one day I will self relase a book compiled of my reviews.....although some of them wouldn't make quite as much sense or be as witty when they are removed from the time and place in which they were originally constructed BUT that would be a good reason the book wouldn't be compleltly lame...newish reviews and such or at least modified to refelct more so what you would see in a book that would be a bit more timeless than timely...or not?
the only thing I lack to move copies is the credibility given to those people like leonard maltin or roger ebert...or anyone else that EVERYONE already knows...but than I think maybe the unique take I have and my writing style would make it interesting for someone to read....I enjoy rereading when I proofread prior to posting my stuff....maybe that's just because I'm in love with myself..hahaha..
till next time...
