Current mood: blah Category: Movies, TV, Celebrities
My, oh my. Where did the year go? Last year around this time, I was preparing for a wedding, or a shower, or an annual report for work. Well, I did go to that shower, married Mr. Bainbridge, went to Hollywood, Mexico, Orlando, Chicago, received a promotion, bought a house, and enjoyed the holidays with the folks. In the meantime, four of my friends are pregnant and I will begin a new trend. Gone are the days I will average 5 weddings a year, now I reached the age for baby season. But I digress, the Golden Globes are here once again to kick off the movie award season and I forgot to go to the movies this year. I did watch plenty of television to last many lifetimes thanks to our good ole DVR. Movies are my favorite pastime besides fashion and I feel that I have betrayed such a genre this year. Is it the economy or have I found ways to avoid spending money? (Please note that I saw signs of the impending economy back in July.See blog. It just took Congress a few more months to admit it. Jerks!) I'm curious how 2009 will fare during the recession. This Christmas my lovely mother bought me two books: a biography on Judy Garland and autobiography by Katherine Hepburn. I've been facinated with old Hollywood, all of my life, and to see the similarities of the movie business then and now are interesting. I was reading a chapter of, Get Happy, and it was referring to the economy and ticket sales. MGM was preparing for a sales slump due to the war. So they were looking for movies that might bring the audience to a happier time and place. So my predictions to bring people out to the movies more often this year and forget about this miserable economy are comedy, fantasy, and feel good movies. Lately, movies like the Bucket List with big name stars are not going to cut it. BTW: I started but couldn't finish this movie this weekend. I was over it an hour into the movie. And here's a movie enthusiast telling you that Morgan Freeman and Jack Nicholson better make some comedies!
