Greetings back home, here's a little update about our adventure thus far. It's been smooth sailing (no pun intended) the last few days. Although we ran into some restricted waters; apparently that was where the Marines were using as practice. Wayne and I kept hearing fully-automatic shots being fired and these military boats kept flying by us with military men manning the .50 caliber guns. That was about the time Wayne and I looked at each other and asked ourselves "did we take a wrong turn somewhere?" We weren't in the area very long before we had a military boat escort us out of there. He did say we didn't screw up, and we were heading in the right direction; but this was just a routine drilling section for the Marines. So that made us feel loads better. After we got out of the Resctricted Area, it got dark and we dropped Kong (our 80 lb anchor), and relaxed for the night. For the first few hours we had military helicopters flying JUST over our mast every 15 minutes or so, almost like clockwork. After preparing some sandwiches and rice, we sat on top of the boat and watched the drills go on during the night. You could see the tracers of the guns they were using, it was our entertainment for the night.

The next day, which was Christmas day, we hit Myrtle Beach, which looked like a ghost town! This is where we docked for the day to celebrate our Christmas. Absolutely beautiful town, and about every type of shop you can think of exists here. It's such a beautiful town to stop in, and it's a shame nothing is open due to the holidays. I feel like we're walking through an old western village. After an hour of walking around in search for food, we decided to head back to the boat, and chose a path along the "Alligator Adventure" path. The wooden sidewalk was pretty secured with a cage, so we felt safe, and I guess the alligators were on holiday as well, because we didn't spot a single one on the path. The only one's we saw were the ones we had to climb a 9-foot wooden fence to see (which I don't recommend). As we walked out of the treacherous alligator-infested waters (a hint of sarcasm), we spotted the car from the movie the "Blues Brothers" and couldn't help but to check it out. So we set up the tripod and Wayne and I got our picture taken. Kind of fitting, considering we feel like we're on a particular mission. The weather is still cooler than we want (50s), but we can't complain too much, considering the cold everyone is enduring up there in West Michigan. I just wanted to say thank you to everyone who is following along with our trip and the moral support you're all giving us. There's been a few times where we both seriously reconsidered this trip and head back, but then we would get several emails and messages on MySpace telling us keep plugging away, or you'll regret it the rest of your life. To those who have taken that much of an interest in this, thank you again.

Funds are running a lot lower than expected, due to cold weather and winds keeping us in marinas extra days, which are always outrageous. I know some of you said you would donate, and I appreciate that so much, and when we get to our destination, I'll get you all something special for helping us get there. Our generation needs to bring back the spirit of giving, and get rid of this gree that has overtaken everyone (mostly corporate workers). I don't like to be an internet panhandler; but if you're interested in donating some funds for this adventure, I would be in forever debt to you; here's the info:

please send a check to or Money order to Wayne Dewyer, P.O. Box 282, Ludington, MI,  49431

Wayne Dewyer is my buddy I'm sailing with and he handles the finances.

Make sure you enclose your address, Name, Phone . I will be sending everyone something from our travels. Thank you and god bless.

Take care everyone and have a great holiday and be safe,

Ryan Quick

Ohh my God, You guys have to write a book. I would buy it. You can sell it in Ludington and all over all the people you have met would buy it and I would surely buy copies for christmas presents. It is so cool what your doing. Take a second and realize what you have done and that might cheer you up. I don't know anyone that has taken an adventure like the one you are currently on. And as far as paying for Marinas maybe your not thinking clearly as far as how to scam your way around. I have met some pretty sneaky sheet shakers in my live and I bet you two can be much more sneaky. Ok love reading your stories miss you love ya dew man
