I've decided that with this next Unter Null album, it will be my last foray into ebm/industrial/whatever (you may call it) music.

2009 is going to be the year of massive experimentation, and not letting problems like, oh, not having an orchestra at immediate hand, not having a multi-million dollar studio, not having an actual "band" but being a solo musician, hold things back.

I've sorely wanted to get away from this genre and scene for a while now. I support my friends' bands, and there are a few bands I really really like in the industrial (umbrella term) genre, but it's not the kind of music I listen to anymore or have for a long time. I don't go to the clubs, not interested in club culture, and while a close-knit community can have its benefits, I am not enthused by the back-stabbing and horrendous "it's a small world" of it all.

While Unter Null has been my main project for over 10 years, I'm definitely not quitting it, however my desire it to tread new grounds and explore new sounds and ways of creation.

My latest release with Stray has also noted a change in my desire for evolution and change. With the current production of the next Unter Null album, I've been finding it increasingly harder to maintain separation between the two projects because I've been finding myself drifting more towards "Stray"-like tracks – heavy on the melody and instrumentation, and less interested in the distorted 4/4 kicks and rahrah vocals.

Being my background is originally in classical music, I feel these days I'm somewhat losing touch with that and while music has always been grounds for catharsis for me, where I am at now is just not cutting it for me.

So, this is meant in no offense to any of my friends, to fellow musicians, or to my awesome fans. It's just time to be moving on… to start the sound that has begun ;)

Whilst not entirely enjoying the regression from the Unter Null project, I cannot help but to agree with you about the so-called "industrial" scene. It's too bad that when something progresses, it might indeed metamorphose into something inferior.

Nonetheless, both projects will always have a spot on my show

Erica -
you and your music have helped me through a difficult time in my life. Your words and melodies have become a part of me and I continue to share your music with others.

What made that music amazing was that you had a passion and a drive to make it. Passion and drive are like fire, in that they sometimes burn bright and sometimes fade and cool.

I encourage you to go wherever your passion is burning it's hottest. Only when you are there will we continue hearing amazing music coming from you. I know that I don't know you at all, Erica, but I know enough to say that you are an amazing artist and behind that amazingness needs to be a passion for your art. So keep doing what you're doing and thinking what you're thinking - you are following your heart, and that is the most important thing.

My only regret was that I never got to see you on the live stage...

Probably your biggest fan in St.
Louis,

Steve0

You are quite talented, and going into new projects will only spread your talent, reaching people who have yet to discover who you are. As wonderful as Unter Null became over time, I support your decision to evolve into new projects. I'm certain you will be very successful, and look forward to the new Era of your success.

Once a fan, always a fan.

though i liked what you have done in the past, i know that evolution can be a good thing. if your soul just isn't in it, it will start to show eventually.

after hearing some of semotus vita, unter null, and a little bit of stray now, i can't wait to see what else you come up with!

respect and regards,

I think it's great to move on and experiment with different genres.

Having the same sound over and over in all the albums can get boring, even for the fellow fans. I can't wait to hear something new from you.

It will be the next level of Unter Null.

I wish you nothing but the best. I feel what you are saying because I've felt the same things you stated.

As far a experimenting...you are one of the best composers regardless of the genre you are working in, proved by your discography and I know you'll do well. Im still a fan, not only of Unter or Stray but of Erica.

good luck.

God this sucks.

You were strength in the industrial genre and I don't want to see you go away :'(

I urge you to rethink this. Not just for me, but for yourself.

You should, of course, follow your heart in making a decision like this. I don't care what genre a band is in as long as it sounds good! I became a fan of Unter Null because I liked the songs, not because it was an EBM/Industrial/Whatever band.

Looking forward to hearing some new stuff!

Talk about being at the right place at the right time....This is how your music has always been with and for me. Unter Null helped me release my woe and anger through one of the roughest times in my life, while Stray still moves the currents of my lost regards for...like you say, things once held sacred.

I listen to a band called Autumn Tears and have been for five years.....I know you will absolutely live them, especially there newest albumn. I look foward to whatever your indomitable mind can create next.

With Deepest respects
Jared Nokturne
