The Oscillation "Head Hang Low"
"This really shouldn't work, but its fantastic: an electro retooling of a ballad from Julian Cope's early-80s caned-in-the-head era, which somehow manages to magnify the original's spooky aura of acid-damaged English melancholy."
F&M Playlist The Guardian - Film & Music 07/09/07

A shimmering shoe gazing underground classic via Julian Cope gets the
coverstreatment from The Oscillation, who displays an unnerving ability to
switch from his deep Kraut inspired Orichalc Phase nom de plume, into his
psychedelic pop mode with considerable ease. Sounding like a lighter
shade of Joy Division it does have somewhat a twee edge to it, however it¹s
a sterling effort that places it in the contemporary pile next to the
likes of Ladytron and Electrelane.

THE OSCILLATION 'Head Hang Low' (DC) »
For all those out there like me who were highly influenced in the old
days by groups such as the Jesus And Mary Chain then this 7 inch single or
digital download is just for you. The atmospheric dark tones and the dreamy
vocals make your mind wander off to pastures new... Not for all but
fantastic for some!!!

THE OSCILLATION "HEAD HANG LOW" DC (UK), DCR85 ?He used to be known as The Orichalc Phase, but has for reasons known onto to himself decided to 'merge' with his other recording alias The Oscillation. Whatever makes you happy. But I digress – the follow-up to his brilliantly metronomic, moody 'Respond In Silence' sees him return to New York with nothing but Can, Suicide, My Bloody Valentine and Spacemen 3 loaded onto his iPod. It's slow, twinkly and very, very pretty. Won't get you dancing much, mind. ***[3 STARS]

Staying on an "I'm a bit far out me" tip, The Oscillation are releasing a
cover of Julian Cope¹s classic 1984 ballad "Head Hang Low". If
you're a fan of Spacemen 3, Spiritualized, Verve then this is for you. It's not out
til October but make sure you check the album too - it's brilliant. Another
winner from DC Recordings.

"The Orichalc Phase 12""s ranked high in my top 10 these last two
years. Demian Castellanos, the man behind the project, now comes with a
complete album on DC as The Oscillation, which will feature versions of his
first two singles and nine great new tracks. This one-sided 7-inch that it comes
with reminds me of a sentence on a library record cover I have: ""The sound
your eyes can follow."" It also comes with some digital-only goodies,
remixes by Chrome Hoof, Kelpe, and Depth Charge. But check the titular Julian Cope cover!
XLR8R Magazine (Cosmo Vitelli)

Demian Castellanos' The Oscillation project is an exercise in blissed-out, blessed-out, nu-gaze pop. sof, warm, 60's vibing electronics, cute-as-pie percussion (countered with a strange creepin menace) and filtered , breathy vocals sitting somewhere in between Dan Snaith of Caribou (formerly Manitoba) and the Pet Shop Boy's Neil Tennant. 'Head Hang Low' is actually a remake of the Julian Cope melancholic ballad from his 1984 'World Shut Your mouth' album, and the cover manages to re-create the poetic wispy feel of the original- albeit in a slightly more optimistic (and electronic) way. if you've heard the previous DC Recordings 12"s under his Orichalc Phase moniker, you know of Castellanos' liking for that kaleidoscopic twisted disco bounce which can be found in the psychedelic masses on The Oscillation's debut album out next week- 'Out Of Phase'. Talking of 'Head Hang Low' watch out for future remixes from label honcho Depth Charge (J Saul Kane) and the bump-riddled electronica of kelpe. Talking of which- when are we going to get that new Kelpe album?
