what is the underlying issue that makes people react like this? what are people so afraid of when she started talking? CAN WE START CALLING THIS INSURANCE REFORM? because it's those bastards that have the rest of us by the balls. it's not the heath care industry's fault. it's the medical insurerers that work for profit against us.

whatever.

randi is awesome!

People can be really ugly sometimes..

It seems like every time I go to the doctor they try to slip in some overpriced charge for things they didn't do that the insurance company won't cover. And even though I have to fight with them to have the bs charges removed, they always do so there is no legal repurcussion against them.  The healthcare system is mimining the very same tactics of credit card fraudsters and identity theives and it makes me want to never go to the doctor even when I really need to. The whole system makes me sick.

For example:  I recently suffered a broken sternum and went to the orthopedic surgeon.  They kept me there for 2 hours and took 6 x-rays before confirming that I had a broken sternum and that there was nothing that could be done for a broken sternum except rest. They prescribed me some painkillers and sent me home.  Two weeks later I was billed $156 for "CLOSED TX RIB FRACTURE UNCOMPLICATED" which the insurance would not cover and could not define as anything other than "we don't cover it... call your doctor". When I called the doctor they said it was for "therapy".  Therapy!!??  FOR WHAT!!!  Some painkillers and being told that nothing can be done for a broken sternum? I exclaimed.  If you don't remove this crap charge I will report you to the health commissioner!  And sure enough the charge was removed. But really??!!  Do I have to go through this same stupid song and dance every time I go to the doctor?  I can't be the only one experiencing this disgusting tactic on a regular basis....

I don't really care if there is a public option or not.  I just want to know what i'm going to be billed before I get billed!!  What other industry in the WORLD gets away with billing you whatever the hell they feel like??  NONE!!

Right on! I completely agree. I have a friend whose diabetic husband went to the hospital for a broken leg, got staff infection while he was there, and died from the staff. Her bill $80,000 (they have no  insurance)

I mean "staph" infection, but I'm sure some of the staff are idiots and infectious.....! :)

I commend Marianne for her courage to speak over the protests of those who would simply be obliged to put her out of her misery. Ain't it sorta odd, how the loudest voices are the most bloodthirsty? Shouting down the pleas of the suffering, and cheering the rants of the enfranchised. I have to question the validity of this society I was born to. Will it be the one that I die from? Will this society kill me before my time? Is that what it's designed for?

I don't know why I am still shocked and horrified when I see so-called Christians booing a woman in a wheel chair but I am. I am ashamed for all of us. The ugliness in this country is beyond anything I would have imagined 10 years ago.
Shame on them!
