It's media month! After the write-up in US Guitar Player, the German Akustik-Gitarre magazine also printed an article about me. I used to read that back in the day...
I've been spending too much time in front of the computer writing tablature for the guitar nuts recently and decided it was time for a week-end off.
We drove out to the Joshua Tree Music Festival - it's been years since I actually went and listened to a show so it was a nice change but to be completely honest, playing one is a lot more fun.
The desert is cruel but beautiful and Joshua Tree National Park is incredible. It was so hot I ended up wearing my wife's skirt!
I heard Kaki King play - good stuff. I've been told so many times I sound just like her that I made sure to catch her set. Part of it was really brave and demanding - it's not often you get to hear that kind of guitar playing and writing. I'm sure we'll all hear a lot more great music from her in the future. Went to talk to her afterwards and when I introduced myself she actually jumped and said she loved my music and had always wanted to meet me. Ha!! Even the stars know who I am. Recognize!!!
To top off my star-studded week-end I ended up driving down to McCabe's in Santa Monica, bumped into Kevin Nealon of Saturday Night Live fame (the man plays a mean banjo) and joined the Nitty Gritty Dirt Band's John McEuen and his son Jonathan on stage for "Mr. Bojangles". What an honour! They made that song a hit seven years before I was born...
