As I write this little intro I'm listing to Chaoticism from Harness, a Portland OR. Metal/Thrash/Death band. This track describes the band as I see them. An ass kicking, in your face group of dudes who love what they do! The scene in Portland has a rich history (WEHRMACHT, AGALLOCH, and many others) I believe that if Harness sticks it out, they very well could be on that list.

Was "on hiatus" planned or necessary?
The on hiatus wasn't planned at all, but it did kind of end up being necessary to help get re-focused and deal with some issues and plan accordingly.

Tell us what a live show for Harness is all about?
A live show for Harness is all about friends getting together, having a good time, some brews and fucking thrashing! It's nothing fancy, no frills, no blabber mouthing, and of course the occasional drunk fuck up haha.

Who's on the bill for the festival up north?
I just got word on the date for the Seattle Metal Festival, and that's September 19th. The guy who does it is apparently really busy because that's all I know about it right now, but as soon as I find out it will be posted. There is a past metal fest myspace that has the previous lineups http://www.myspace.com/seattlemetalfest
Hopefully this year has as good of a lineup as past years!

Is there a metal scene in Portland, or has it's time passed?
I know there is a metal scene in Portland, I just don't know why it's so hard to get people excited about it. There are so many absolutely killer bands around here that are playing to hardly anyone. When a big national act comes through the metal heads come out of the woodwork like a swarm, but where the hell are they otherwise? get the fuck out people! haha.

Glam or Hardcore? If Hell has a radio station, which will be playing?

I think Hell plays Emo, but I guess between those two choices I'd have to say Hardcore because at least Glam has some blistering solos sometimes, and I really can't think of anything else because I'm no good at thinking of things.

Any thanks or lashings you want to give out?

I would like to thank any band or venue for that matter that has played a show with us that hasn't been dicks! Shit just works so much better when you aren't a dick. There's way too much shit I'd like to lash out at so I'll just keep it to that thought haha.

Thanks for serving and, keeping the local Portland scene alive Brian!

SERVING THE REAL METAL UNDERGROUND!

We need a venue in the vein of the old Satyricon that plays a lot of local metal acts. Not that they don't now, it just seems like they are gearing more towards the typical weird Portland shit.
As far as the major bands are concerned, I think that the marketing has a lot to do with it. Either Mike Thrasher, the Mercury, or signs on phone poles are all over it. Half the people at these shows are high school kids that think being at a Cannibal Corpse show is "cool" and no idea what its about.
Honestly I don't know of a lot of local bands, its harder than hell to find out who is around. I posted an add on Craigslist asking if I was missing something with the local metal scene. The only person that replied is one of the guys from Harness (I think is was you Brian...).  Harness is fucking amazing I have turned a few of my friends onto them.
The Blood Funnel is a fucking awesome thing to get things going and get band exposed. It seems like there needs to be something more. Like a printed fanzine that is distributed at places like 2nd ave records and the Satyricon. Giving interviews, adds for musicians wanted, gear for sale. I think it would take a while to take off. Maybe charge a small fee for adds to go towards printing cost. Oh, and every show you can find out about- from venues to clubs to partys.
